Welcome to Risa

All the pleasure of shore leave, none of the holodeck glitches.

Rule 1 — Be Civil, Not KlingonThis is a vacation planet, not the neutral zone.

  • No harassment, brigading, or trolling
  • No bigotry
  • Keep the banter playful, not hostile

Rule 2 — No Prohibited CargoSome things aren’t welcome aboard.

  • No spam or scams
  • No porn or sexually explicit content
  • No illegal content
  • NSFW memes must be properly tagged

Rule 3 — Keep It TrekPosts should be Star Trek memes or Trek-adjacent humor.

  • Crossovers are fine
  • Low-effort “unrelated” memes may be spaced out the nearest airlock

Rule 4 — Gatekeeping Belongs in a Black Hole
You’re welcome to have your own opinions on what counts as “real” Star Trek but forcing your view on others or pretending it’s the only valid one? That’s not the Starfleet way.
Everyone’s Trek is valid, from TOS purists to Lower Decks shitposters, and you don't get to dictate what is real or not for everyone.

If you see a post that violates the rules, or that doesn't inspire Jamaharon, report it so the mods can handle it.

Otherwise grab a horga’hn, order a Risan Mai Tai, and enjoy your shore leave.

He really doesn't. Your opinion is not universal and not factual. Not everything revolves around what you like and things are allowed to change or expand in directions unexpected. As the title says...

Cope.

Someone makes an unfounded qualitative statement about something. That is inherently a personal opinion. Why does it need to be explicitly stated?

[–] I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Question. Why do you think your opinion is better?

[–] Zagorath@aussie.zone 6 points 2 days ago

Did I miss the part where Stamets said their opinion was better?

I never claimed that mine was

Things are allowed to grow, but not change. You cant put flying saucers in lord of the rings. You cant make L word about straight couples. And you cant make a Star Trek movie for Star Wars fans, and expect Star Trek fans to like it, and not be insulted by it.

In 2009 I was happy to go see a new Star Trek movie, then I got out of the theatre disappointed, thinking this would be the last one I watch.

And I even somewhat enjoyed ENT! But the line had to be drawn, there.

My opinion is fuck NuTrek. The only exception is LD. I'm just not actively going to shit on NuTrek, because to me it doesn't usually even register as Star Trek.

You can like it if you want to, but I gave up.

Personally, though I've appreciated them, I've never enjoyed an ear, nose and throat doctor.

Unfortunately I'll never see the new trek as it's owned by Paramount.

Fuck Larry and David Ellison.

The last year has taught me that it's easier to boycott things I hate, even if inconvenient, than I thought it would be.

That's fair. I can't blame you there

I will never say the sequel trilogy for Skywalker saga wasn't what it is. It was bad. Can't tell me otherwise. Trying to justify what they did with that is cope. No cap.

Depends on what actually this is about.

If it's about the last movie, that clearly goes against every value of the franchise, no it's objectively a slap in the face of fans.

If it's about the other recent stuff that is just badly written, yeah, it's just a close to universal subjective opinion.

Only thing I can think of where the opinion seems universal is the penultimate and final seasons of Game of Thrones. I'm not picky in the slightest, especially on a first viewing, wanted to continue loving the series. It didn't merely fizzle, it fell like a lead zeppelin. Never heard a soul, online on IRL, that wasn't flat out pissed off.

My brain is pretty good at ignoring plot holes, again, especially on the first watch. But that scene where they only know the enemy fleet is coming because dragon queen flies over the hill and sees them, my god. They couldn't have posted a couple of dudes to watch the only sea route?! And for all the intrigue and spying, they didn't have a clue that a monster fleet had sailed?! Probably sounded dramatic when they were writing it, but the execution was hilarious. This wasn't a far ride over a mountain range. She just pops over the hill and there they are. I could have walked up there myself.

When youre making things for people who dont like it and arent fans, that is in fact a slap in the face to fans. See just about every nerd/geek franchise of the past 10+ years thats being made for the same popular kids that would bully the nerds at school for liking it.

I actually feel sort of the opposite about the Assassins Creed series: the trilogy I loved was an affront to the franchise.

As evidenced by the fact that I liked them at all, unlike "real" AC games.
