It's kinda crazy. Untill today this 1927 speech (1) serves as "let's agree this is our truth and as long as we all believe it, it becomes true".

In a certain way it's impressive. But I do think that not reconciling themselves with their dark horrible past is wat led the Turks back to autocracy. Can't learn from the past if you actively deny it.
