I mean, Pashtuns are famous for their hospitality and how seriously they take it. It's not that surprising if they didn't have reason to consider him dangerous.

Gotta keep telling myself that handsome man with the dreamy eyes punctuated with eyeliner is in the Taliban. Is this supposed to be purposeful bait like the pretty IDF women to try to gain support from thirsty people?

Apparently, and this is a 30s search that turned up some rumors, some Afghan men wear kohl. And apparently there's some sunnah about it but I am too white and too atheist to go diving in to commentaries on Islamic law at 6am on a Wednesday.

Remeber kids: Make sure your kohl has it's ingredients listed. Historically some pretty nasty shit has been used in kohl that you don't want near your eyes.

Found a picture of a Pashtun dude wearing kohl and with his beard dyed with henna on the wiki

Yeah it's true, and it's common across the Middle East, Africa, and Indian subcontinent too afaik. At least in India, usually adult men wearing surma usually means they are Muslim. But I have worn surma as a young Hindu boy too. All kids wear it up to a certain age, and girls and ladies always wear it.

Also yeah the henna dyed hair is wild, usually old people do that when their hair starts turning white. It feels like my Indian grandparents are going through a punk phase when they show up with orange hair and beards sometimes

Thanks for the information! It’s a strong look, more should get henna beards.

Yeah that's kohl, been around in the larger region for a very long time for all genders and ages. I feel pretty wearing it too
