They walk to school, check all their bags for firearms (take any away that are brought in) ... then after the security check, they are given their own holstered small sidearm that they have to keep visually on them at all times during school hours. It has to stay visible to everyone at all times.

Really, this is the US government terrorizing children and a corporation using them as test subjects disguised as a security measure.
They have pepper spray, ramming capabilities, and speakers. Supposedly the idea is to distract the shooter to buy time and give away their position.

A crude emp pulse generator is very easy to make. You could probably do it with just the junk tech everyone has around at this point. Battery, wire, switch, maybe a metal bar. Think a capacitor is the only real thing most people can't just throw together. I mean you could but it takes a little skill.
