Trump's latest remarks come only days after Pete Hoekstra, the U.S. ambassador to Canada, said it's Canadians who are fixated on the 51st state talk, and that sort of rhetoric is now in the past.

These idiots can't even keep their bullshit consistent.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Hoekstra can't keep his bullshit consistent with his own bullshit a few seconds ago when he denied his previous bullshit after being called out on his bullshit being bullshit.

Yet another distraction....

[–] DonkMagnum@lemy.lol 18 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Or, maybe it's not (just) distraction. Maybe he is seeding interest amongst the Canadian magatards. Maybe this is designed to give traction to Dani Smith and her ilk, to create division and internal strife.

Maybe Trump and the repubs have been following a playbook for all his Canada talk... maybe Putin's playbook on Ukraine.

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 week ago

I think this is definitely a part of it.

And Canada, once again tells Trump to "get fucked".

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 26 points 1 week ago

This fucking clown.

[–] Undearius@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 week ago

Wait, I thought we had a fentanyl problem. Why would he want that?

[–] rabber@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'd rather die and I mean that

[–] masterofn001@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 week ago (2 children)

We Canadians just knew Trump would keep babbling about it.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 16 points 1 week ago (2 children)

oh look, another few years added to how long it will be before I consider going back there

[–] jaemo@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 week ago

I don't know what math you're using but adding more to infinity is beyond my cognitive capacity.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No need to come to the US. Hegseth wants to bring the US to you.

Yea time to start playing with switches at Niagara substations around the time the stock market opens again... Wonder how much that would wipe off the market

[–] IndridCold@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Hey USA. Your boy is on the front lawn in his diapers eating dog shit again. Maybe collect him before he gets away?

Why does he think ALL of Canada should be a single state, anyway?

[–] HertzDentalBar@lemmy.blahaj.zone 20 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Because he doesn't actually understand how any of this works.

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

My guess is he thinks naming it just a single state conveys the message that Canada is inferior. It's whatever enough to just clump all together.

I would gladly welcome New England as our 11th Province and Cascadia as our 12th.

Even better, I would love to see a balkanized USA. The current monster is a sclerotic ossified polity incapable of adapting and changing. They have created such a strong central government that everything is a cosmic battle between 2 megatribes and they all hang from the balls of 3 swing SCOTUS justices, 5 swing state senators and 1 crazy POTUS. That's an insane concentration of power.

The US is just too coupled for what it is. An EU-style semi-autonomous decoupling would make everyone that much happier: when Slovenia adopts weird gender rules, Portugal can just shrug and continue. Hungary gets to cosplay Frankoism while Spain sends ships to protect the Gaza Flotilla.

So, the US could happily break into some sane set of (10-20) self-coherent countries that can freely experiment with their laws, political cultures structures and constitutions. Let's also get an independent Quebec in there for good measure, and let's have an EU-like loose confederation with freedom of movement from the DariΓ©n Gap to the Arctic Ocean.

For fuck's sake.

I’m floating Cascadia joining up with Canada.

[–] NotSteve_@piefed.ca 12 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I feel like they'd do better as territories. Even the more left leaning US states have a very different political culture that I wouldn't want imported into Canada

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They should just be independent countries for a while and see how that goes before they even consider asking to move in with someone else.

The information I have seen leads me to believe that something really fucking bad is about to happen, and WW3 is about to kick off for real.

  • Canada and the US are still far apart on any "deal" that would see the tariffs go away, and Canadians likely are never going back even if the relationship thawed politically.

  • Trump renamed the "Department of Defense", to the "Department of War"

  • Trump is currently sending troops to Portland. (I believe I read it was close to 1,800. Please correct me if wrong)

  • Days later, Trump starts talking 51st state bullshit again.

  • Let us not forget that Putin and Trump are friends, and any issues between them are 100% performative.

Meanwhile:

  • China seems to be readying an attack on Taiwan.

  • China has been observed in our Arctic waters.

  • China is also buying up anything they can to get rights to our rare earth minerals.

Meanwhile:

  • Russia has also been poking around the Arctic.

  • Russia has been invading NATO airspace for some time now, specifically around where the leaders will gathered this week.

  • Reports of Russia potentially opening up a NATO front in the war with Ukraine.

Meanwhile:

  • Russia, China, and North Korea are in an open alliance.

  • North Korea has been pushing some boundaries recently with South Korea.

I am missing a lot because I am just pulling from my memory (As an example the Saudi/Pakistan treaty that I didn't read into enough) but it just looks like this is it. I am not trying to be an alarmist, but I don't see these signals going any other way than directly to Global war.

Give Canadians 96 hours notice, we are closing up shop, come across and get back home, and close the border. You don't hold open borders against invaders.

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

This won't stop. There's too much money to be made to let it go. If we shift to the right, it's gonna get worse.

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Fuck Trump, fuck the USA. We will never be a state.

He's not kidding. The whole "no rules of engagement" speech by Hegseth, Canada should be preparing a drone army by now, Ukraine style.

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 7 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The Canadian government really should be funding courses on combat first aid, self-sufficiency, and other non-combat insurgency courses.

Abso-fucking-lutely. Ukraine has shown the 20th century military doctrines to be dead and has shown how smaller countries can fuck up bigger ones with drone warfare. Canada needs this and I'm not even a militarist.

[–] Sunshine@piefed.social 8 points 1 week ago

My boycott becomes stronger.

The great white north has existed for thousands of years. No American president will ever control this land.

I mean, the Presidents are at 47 and States have not gone above 50 as long as most remember. The last time the numbers were this close, there was a civil war.

Still, why not start with DC and Puerto Rico, am I right?
