*Left-handed people

MAGA picked the "perfect" scapegoat for their political hatred. It is one of the smallest voting demographics they can get. They isolate and abuse 1% so they can enrage the 20-30% of the die hard MAGA base.

There is really only one way to correct this ... lawsuits. Class action settlements. They must be punished with monetary penalties, it is the only thing MAGA understands.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 2 points 8 hours ago

The evangelical wing pulling a third of the puppet strings don't think it's a scapegoat, they think it's a start... Trans just get the mob gathered.

Honestly I question if Thiel understands who he made his bed with.

[–] jawa22@lemmy.blahaj.zone 25 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

I'll be frank here. Being trans in the US atm has my suicidal ideation through the roof and I have no real support network. I called this shit a year ago. I am fucking scared, and I don't see a way out.

[–] NoAlias@lemmy.ca 5 points 8 hours ago

Please don't hurt yourself. Good will prevail and better days will come. I don't know you but I care about you and I want you to stay alive to fight the fear alongside the rest of us.

[–] not_IO@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 9 hours ago

i feel for you, you are valid and deserve a decent life! it's of vital importance to find a support network of people you can trust and depend on and/or get the hell outa there, it's only going to get worse

[–] Dragonstaff@leminal.space 10 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Eh...the average American also thinks 1/5 people are trans when it's more like 1/50.

The number of newspaper articles condemning trans people is skyrocketing. The left handed graph seems a bit of a red herring.

[–] Pelicanen@sopuli.xyz 12 points 10 hours ago

Seems to maybe be closer to 1 in 100 which really highlights how overblown the "trans issue" really is when the actual issue is about how those people are denied basic human freedoms.

[–] moody@lemmings.world 42 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Trans ideology can be summed up in a single sentence.

It's ok to be trans.

That's literally all there is to it.

[–] dangling_cat@piefed.blahaj.zone 13 points 15 hours ago

I’ll say it’s challenging the patriarchy system and gender roles. But fundamentally it’s a different view on body autonomy and identity. Any argument against transgender can be used against transhumanism.

Same thing with autism and many other things. Everyone ‘conformed’ back when we either forced conformity, ignored, or suppressed differences.

‘We never saw x back in the day.’ Yeah, dumbass, you didn’t see it because everyone was scared to be themselves.

They just want everyone back in the closet so they won’t be mildly uncomfortable by having to witness something different from themselves.

We must all be white christian men (or subservient women). Nothing else is acceptable. No minorities, no other identities or beliefs, no neurodivergence. Everyone must conform or their precious feelings might be hurt.

Good, good, the right handers still suspect nothing of our, *ahem*, sinister plan.

Physiotherapists can pick out those forced to switch: apparently musculature around the upper thoracic (?) spine develops based on handedness as baby first starts grasping things, and this development is (was) still visible decades later. You get comments like "I thought you said you were right-handed..." out of the blue.

How do I sign up for the left handed ideology newsletter?

[–] thefrozenorth@sh.itjust.works 12 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

It's all about religion. Jesus sits on the right hand of God, Satan sits on the left. Left handed children were seen to agents of Satan. Trans is an abomination because God only created Adam and Eve. I'm sure there are passages in the Bible that will eventually be discovered making them ok, much like abortion: the Bible contains instructions on how to induce an abortion. Personally I think the best argument is to tell evangelicals that a miscarriage is an abortion by God. For whatever his unknown reason, he has decided this child should not be born. If abortion is ok with God, it's ok with me.

If you want to see their Christian morals on full display, I highly recommend this:

https://youtu.be/jvndBdOsYcc

(It’s an orthodox father justifying his beliefs, and it’s abhorrent.)

quite like this analogy, may use if topic comes out on Thanksgiving dinner

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 9 points 16 hours ago

It was obviously communism that turned people left-handed!

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 3 points 14 hours ago (3 children)

Does this mean that once they're done with the other minorities they're gonna go after the left handed?

[–] djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 11 hours ago

The key thing about fascism is that it always requires an other to attack, so yeah maybe! Personally, I think they'll start going after religious differences first, but maybe they'll bring back beating left-handers with a stick in school in the meantime.

[–] chaonaut@lemmy.world 5 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

I have people in my near-age group who were punished for using their left hand and not the "correct hand." Given the right environment, they'll bring it back and act like it's the morally correct thing.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 2 points 11 hours ago

Well yeah, we already know they hate the left.

I wonder if southpaws are above or below the Irish on the list

Okay, yes, agree, but that dress is amazing.

[–] kip@piefed.zip 1 points 11 hours ago

The chart in the image was reproduced by the Washington Post from a 2009 study by I C McManus

The Post article makes a similar claim to the one in the screenshot

McManus theorizes that the late-Victorian dive in left-handedness reflects stigma against southpaws

https://archive.ph/y543P

But he actually said this is unlikely

One possibility, extensively discussed in the handedness literature, is that left-handers die earlier [...] An alternative explanation of the lower rate of left-handedness suggests that the elderly are more likely, because of social pressure, either to have been forced to shift from writing with the left hand to writing with the right hand, or they prefer to call themselves right-handed, because of a taboo against left-handedness. Both this and the differential mortality explanation become unlikely when one looks at the entire Gilbert and Wysocki database [...] The best account of the Gilbert and Wysocki data is that it directly reflects the actual rate of left-handedness in the population

Some people barely got past "peek-a-boo" and they don't even know why that's a problem.

The original graph has it, X is just dogshit for viewing images.

[–] tommy_chillfiger@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

Lol, I was born left handed and was forced to write right handed in preschool (Baptist.. not religious it was just cheap). This was in the mid '90s. Now I'm all mixed up and do some stuff left handed and other stuff right handed.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 1 points 14 hours ago

Lol, I was born left handed and was forced to write right handed in

... the third grade. If you picked secular/public elementary school in flatlander Canada, you'd've been right. Not having a coastline makes people stupid and crazy, I worry

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago

I can relate. I was playing Rocket League with my Xbox Elite 2 controller at probably Champ 3 level, for years, and it was like second nature. Then I switched to the latest 8bitDo controller and I couldn't aerial. But I was going all in and retraining my hands and brain and at one point I was like at Plat 2 level with both controllers, because I was midway into rewiring my neural pathways. 💀 But now I'm finally starting to regain ranks after playing exclusively with the new controller for months.

It's crazy what the brain is capable of. Truly awesome, in the awest of senses.

[–] whereyaaat@lemmings.world -2 points 10 hours ago

That's some mid-grade copium.
