Weimar Republic 2, but this time it's the whole fucking planet

The governing coalition parties (SPD, Greens, FDP) all tanked really hard. The AfD is gaining popularity because they are the only party that says we should stop giving money to Ukraine, but of course they say it for dumbass fascist reasons. The German Left party is completely useless because they're also mostly liberals and pretty much disappearing entirely. The AfD is also banging the migration crisis drum again and succeeding because neoliberalism is completely incapable of solving any of the current issues.

The AfD is also benefitting from the conservative CDU being lead by Friedrich Merz, who literally nobody likes and even the 60-year-olds who vote CDU think is a detriment to the party's success. Germany, more than any other European nation from what I can tell, is breaking its own back trying to be a good little vassal state, going more slava ukraini than the other countries and of course immediately withdrawing all aid from Palestine after their evil, completely unprovoked terrorist attack.

My local newspaper dedicated its first 3 pages to the Gaza conflict today. The first one talking about the horrific traumatic attack that took 700 Israeli lives. The second one remembering the Yom Kippur war 50 years ago. The third one had a few lines about "retaliatory airstrikes" and how buildings in Gaza were destroyed before spending the rest of the article citing German politicians condemning Hamas and talking about withdrawing funding. No mention of the dead in Gaza in 3 entire pages. No mention of sieges. No mention of the unhinged rhetoric from Israeli politicians. Completely uncritical support of Israel at every fucking corner, talking about how "Germany owes a debt to the jews" yeah okay surely we can find some jews to support who aren't genocidal maniacs???

Our government is so fucking spineless, such pathetic little lapdogs. The German political establishment has no answer to the AfD. And that's especially sad because the AfD is run by the dumbest dullards imaginable, the most boring fascists you've ever seen that make DeSantis look charismatic. It's an entire party of the most boring Nazis imaginable, and they're still gaining popularity because our political landscape is just that fucking pathetic.

Germans: Life is getting materially worse

Gov: ...

Germans: Inflation is off the charts

Gov: ...

Germans: There is no affordable housing

Gov: ...

AfD: We should drown Syrian refugees in the ocean, that'll fix it

Germans: Okay

The comments on that shithole sub are about what you'd expect.

I digress.

In Bavaria, the AfD is projected to get 16% of the vote, according to provisional results, almost six points more than the last regional elections in 2018. In Hesse, it is projected to get 18%, five points more than five years ago. These results confirm the far-right's country-wide surge, recorded by polling institutes. If parliamentary elections were held in Germany today, the AfD would top 20%...

...The big loser in Sunday's elections is Chancellor Olaf Scholz's Social Democratic Party (SPD). In Hesse, where SPD's list was headed by Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, it won 15% of the vote, down almost five points on 2018. In Bavaria, it is projected to barely top 8%, almost two points less than five years ago.

SuccDems leading to fascists? Shocking.
