A place to meme about the glorious ROMAN EMPIRE (and Roman Republic, and Roman Kingdom)! Byzantines tolerated! The HRE is not.

You were right to doubt this. I thought that I read this about a rebellion of the Frisii in "De Bello Gallico". Turns out there are neither cruxifications nor Frisii in the book.

I am sure that I read it somewhere but Google doesn't turn up anything about it. So it most likely is wrong.
