As an American, same.
Boycott US
Overview:
The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.
Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.
America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.
America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

And they shouldn't.
They make a lot of fucking cool guns though. But the Belgians are no slouches either.
6/10 Americans won't trust America again also.
Came here to say this. The last decade has truly flipped my perception of the rest of america on its head. Well, my perception of conservatives, at least. I always knew that people are people and there's a spectrum of good to bad. I've come to realize that Republicans literally do not care about trying to help anyone else unless they see some sort of personal return of either money or power. I've seen so many people that I thought were "a good, slightly dumb person misguided by politics" fully throw themselves behind Trump. Everything that they say they believe in is apparently a lie, since they so readily line up to worship a person so antithetical to what they pretend to believe. I can not and do not trust anyone that identifies with Republicans or even conservatism at this point.
Trust them to do what exactly? Were y'all asleep during covid? You can't trust humans to put a mask on during a pandemic. But I don't go into every interaction assuming the worst of the other person. Now if we're talking about the American government? Yeah that's a valid sentiment.
Trust them to have basic human decency, trust them to not invade Canada, trust them to rigorously oppose a criminal regime?
As George Carlin said: "Well, where do people think these politicians come from? They don't fall out of the sky. They don't pass through a membrane from another reality. They come from American parents and American families, American homes, American schools, American churches, American businesses and American universities, and they are elected by American citizens. This is the best we can do folks. This is what we have to offer. It's what our system produces: Garbage in, garbage out. If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you're going to get selfish, ignorant leaders."
Or any time during NAFTA.
Too many lemmy conservatives left onguardforthee now it’s full of pro US posters.
I don't blame y'all
It is time for a US and Canadian citizenship exchange program. There are plenty of US citizens that would enjoy life in Canada and the racist neo-Nazi Canadians would relish life in a deregulated red run Oblast.
racist neo-Nazi Canadians would relish life in a deregulated red run Oblast.
...you do know who defeated the Nazis, right? Like in history books for real, not video games. Like, how did that world salad make any sense to you?
You figure? You figure people who elect a psychopath who threatens to destroy my country economically before annexing it as the fifty-first state may have lost a lot of trust?
That's just crazy talk!
that's completely fair
for all the terrible things both political parties wrought globally from the end of WWII until a Jan 20, 2017, they were united (more or less) in a commitment to being a rules and laws based main even if it hurt "their side" from time to time.
Even Reagan's "11th Amendment" would be set aside from time to time to preserve America's standing in the world.
Not so any more. And i don't actually know if it's possible to get that reputation back.
Seems four out of ten Canadians aren’t paying attention.
In my experience about 4 out of 10 people don't know anything about critical thinking; what it is or how to do it.
My parents are in this 4 of 10. They watch Fox News, donate regularly to the Republican party even though they are Canadian, they do not donate to the conservative party of Canada (I dunno), call me every time Carney does something they dislike because I voted Liberal, and still spend a good chunk of their time in Florida where they own property and are proud of it.
Trump has become an unpopular subject as my sister will lose her shit at family gatherings so they no longer mention his name. But are big supporters!
"maple MAGA" like your parents kind of fascinate me. I wonder how deep the mentality goes for these people, and how much is just aesthetics and/or a deeply misguided attempt to escape from the relative boredom of a safe 1st-world country whose democracy is still intact. It demonstrates a stunning lack of awareness though, and it's cute how they don't seem to realize that actual MAGA would likely reject them out of hand for being "foreigners".
They spend 6 months of the year in Florida and have a large group of MAGA folk they golf with. My step father is a former corporate COO, he has tons of like-minded friends down there. They're accepted and welcomed
I wonder how many of those already had an opinion of the Americans that was so low it couldn't sink any further?
Yep. I say this as a resident of the United States and it will take at minimum decades to fix the damage that Trump has caused in just nine months. More likely (assuming the US survives) it will take multiple generations to fix the damage from Trumps second term.
As a Canadian- it isn’t “the damage Trump has caused in 9 months.” It’s the damage the US populace at large has done and allowed to be done for roughly 3-4 decades while literally everyone was telling you to wake the fuck up because this was the trajectory you were on.
In response to the entire world trying to warn you off this path, you closed your eyes, stuck your fingers in your ears, flipped us off, yelled louder and started flying your flags more conspicuously.
Trump is one small part of the gargantuan fuckup YOU allowed to happen. Trump is a symptom. A few entire generations of Americans are the cause.
I know, I know. We've seen the rot spreading since Regan, but it's nearly impossible to get rid of when about half the voting public think it's ordained by god to vote straight republican.
