My grandfather served in the Vietnam War, and had some rather harrowing stories about his experiences; I'll never forget what he said to me when I asked him his opinion on the war:
That the Vietnamese were fighting for their country, that he didn't blame them in the least, and that he felt no antipathy towards them.
What a stupid goddamn war we waged.
Explanation: In the past 70 years, Vietnam has fought France, the US, the PRC, and Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge. Vietnam won each time.
