Funny that the article doesn't talk about Pacific Rim, which was definitely a departure from his normal dark, gothic, practical effects-driven horror/drama.

This movie closes the cycle. If you look at the lineage, from “Cronos” to “The Devil’s Backbone,” to “Pan’s Labyrinth” to “Crimson Peak” to this, this is an evolution of a certain type of aesthetic, and a certain type of rhythm, and a certain type of empathy. I feel like I need a change […] You never know, the day after tomorrow, I may want to do Jekyll & Hyde, or whatever. But right now, my desire is to try and do something very different.

I just hope for this movie to be a huge success. So maybe... maybe, there will be some ray of hope for "Mountain of Madness" ( a man can dream). 🤞

I was not familiar with that, haven't read any of that material, but looked up a brief description and now I want him to do it too. Made me think of The Thing right away. A similar setting is prominent in the book Frankenstein. Really curious about this film and how accessible he's going to make it.
