Threadiverse, didn't zuckerberg call it that? Like Facebook Threads or something?

Welcome!
Can you imagine, years ago how the internet was before? We know Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, Youtube. We knew blogger, Tumblr, Skyrock... and long before, it was the forum era as phpBB..and mail-lists.
And now with ActivityPub, we are reshaping the web, and achieving much with lots of freedom. So thank you all, and welcome π€π

He stole it, was already being used
I use Fediverse as threads is tied to meta
When I hear threadiverse I think of Mastodon and Bluesky
Ye I use threadiverse myself.
Just call it Fediverse.
Fediverse can be part. Fediverse can be all. Fediverse is the all that federates with the bit. Fediverse ought. Fediverse will be. It's even on Poob. Poob will federate it for you. Poob will federate it for you.
It doesn't make sense to tell someone "Welcome to the Fediverse" when they join Piefed or Lemmy as they can't follow Mastodon or Sharkey users
It's still the Fediverse. While things are connected, not everything has to be absolutely connected. There's still work to be done.
You can waxing poetically it if you want. "Welcome to our little corner of the Fediverse" etc.
Or, if you are really that hung up on this not being the Fediverse, call it the Lemmyverse or smth.
Itβs still the Fediverse. While things are connected, not everything has to be absolutely connected. Thereβs still work to be done.
Except that's the premise new joiners are told when they join the Fediverse "everything is connected".
Turns out it's not, you have Mbin/PieFed/Lemmy on one side, then Mastodon/Sharkey/Iceshrimp on another, and the support between both is rudimentary, as people commented below
and the support between both is rudimentary, as people commented below
Not on Mbin at least.. I follow plenty of people from Mastodon/Other services from this MBin account and interact with them time from time
Mbin has 812 monthly active users: https://mbin.fediverse.observer/dailystats
Piefed 1800: https://piefed.fediverse.observer/dailystats
Lemmy 37000: https://lemmy.fediverse.observer/dailystats
If 98% of the people can't do something, I'm going to say all of them can't do it.
Except that, apparently you can? A recent post I made on Lemmy had replies from Mastodon accounts afaict
Interacting with Lemmy threads from Mastodon is easy, the inverse not so much
Each threadiverse community is visible as a single user in Mastodon. All the comments come into one pile, not organized into clear threads. It's a very rudimentary support. But yeah, you can join a threadiverse conversation from Mastodon, but you cannot share any Mastodon content in threadiverse.
From within Lemmy, there is zero possibility to utter anything on Mastodon, except as a reply to a message a Mastodon user has made in a threadiverse community.
It's actually very easy checking how this conversation looks from within Mastodon! Just go to any Mastodon instance (such as http://mastodontti.fi/ ) with your web browser, click the search tool and search for a "user" called @fediverse@piefed.social .
Threadiverse is fine with me. Fediverse in general, but Threadiverse is more specific imo. We're early on the Fedi, we get to make the rules! Square is blue! Up is left and right is forward. MUAHAHAHAHA! :-D
They've gone mad with freedom!
Mad with freedom is the new closed garden oppression! All of the cool kids are doing it!
This could be a line from one of the dreamers in Paprika
Personally, I use it. In my corner of Fedi, people do use it. At the end of the day, language is shaped by the people who use it. So yeah, let's keep using it. :)
Sounds good, thank you for your comment :)
I didn't knew it was not accepted...
Yup I personally always use threadiverse and love to use threadiverse.link instead of lemmyverse.link
Maybe I missed something but never saw a problem with that name.
Edit: wanted to add that voyager has also started to use threadiverse.link as a share option (i believe lemsha.re as well but that service shut down).
The only concern I've seen with the name is that Facebook named their thing "Threads", and so it might be confusing for people familiar with that.
I still use the term π€·
Threads is pretty much dead and forgotten tho?
It was feeling like older twitter for a little bit but enough ppl joined and now the algorithim is the same trash modern x is.
Ahhh that was the problem! Okay I kinda understand. But I think we can refuse to let that asshole company steal words like Meta, Face & Book, Threads, etc. and act as if that was their invention.
But yeah I just kept using threadiverse because I feel like everyone here understands exactly what it is and others use it too. If people wouldn't I wouldn't use it I guess :)
Edit: gonna start shortening that to TV so I can just tell everyone "saw that on TV"
We had some issues with the term "Threadiverse" when Meta's Threads was on the rise and in public discourse. And people started confusing this with what Mark Zuckerberg does. But I think that toned down substantially. I think Threadiverse is a good term, we might as well try again and see if the confusion is still there. And I mean it's a super niche term anyways to talk about a certain corner of a niche itself. So I guess it's often embedded in a context and that'd help as well. I'd go for it. And the threads are the identifying mark of this place, so it fits.
Personally I hate "verse" lingo.
I get that. It's like every political conspiracy is a "-gate". But its a useful shorthand, and thats what the term needs.
Every time I explain it to someone, I roll my eyes a little at those terms, but thats what it's called... It sounds so marketing. Trying to tell someone "join the Fediverse" feels like selling a cult, a little, lol
I may ask my wife if she'll let me set up something for her to scroll other than TikTok, though. She's not the type to dive into new stuff like this without good reason, but if I just go "here's your app, all set up with stuff you'll generally enjoy!" maybe it'll drag her off that godawful site.
Threadiverse ftw
I prefer forumverse. Or more inventive : Verse
On !fediverse@piefed.social i created flair to categorize :
- forum software : threadiverse
- media software as pixelfed, peertube, vernissage : mediaverse
- blog : fediblog ...
But i think it is confusing and do not help a lot π₯Ή
