Dumb take, even if you broke up. Those were real experiences that shaped you, and you probably wouldn't be the same person if you had slept instead.

Don't regret past lovers, accept that lots of things in life are temporary, and that's okay.

As evidenced by the facial expressions in the meme. That does not look like lost time to me!

I've never done this with someone I was romantically interested in but funnily enough I've done this with friends. And they're still my friends.

Remember when you you were crying from loneliness till 3AM till you sobbed to sleep? Well the crying didn't make any friends so you should've just slept

Yep, they're right here. Happily married.

We were roommates. And then just kept being roommates. Even became good friends.

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Yeah, I was going to say - where are they now? In my fucking bed, waiting for me to get off the can ...

[–] BootLoop@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Lucky you, I just have one all purpose bed.

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I refuse to compromise on any horizontal activities.

Edit: nvm, thought it was a typo but it's an expression

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 2 points 3 days ago

Oh my god they were roommates

You sleep every day but you only get so many of those interactions in life

[–] tomkatt@lemmy.world 30 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

I married her nearly 20 years ago. And sometimes we’re still up til 3 am talking. No regrets.

Same, but not quite 20 years. No regrets.

[–] CookieOfFortune@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago

Those were the best moments. Even without romantic intentions, those times at the end of the night when all the chaos has died down and you’re just closely connecting with your friends. It’s really the best.

[–] StarvingMartist@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 days ago

Messy break up, I would still never give up those memories for the world, because that grand surge of emotion is something I cherish

[–] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 20 points 3 days ago

I also married one of them, but the rest were mostly positive experiences also.

[–] brown567@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 days ago

Wasn't in a romantic context, but a roommate of mine and I would stay up late talking

He ended up saving me from suicide, we were each best man at the other's wedding, and we still play D&D twice a week! Totally worth it

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Asked me to marry him. Bought a house together. Been 20 years and still 3am chatting (admittedly because rn he's in spain and i'm still in AU and it's mostly pictures of our cats and him in front of various buildings but still...)

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You bought a house together and live on separate continents?

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Buddy, I'ma bout to blow your mind. Picture this: work trips

(He is on one.)

[–] Sabata11792@ani.social 13 points 3 days ago

We got old and now 3am has week long consequences.

[–] capybeby@sh.itjust.works 16 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

They are my fiancé now!! Worth every hour of lost sleep

[–] jaschen306@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Ummm. She's next to eating a bagel in bed.

My SO would never eat bagles in bed, and would kill me if I did. Crumbs are no joke.

[–] licheas@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

don't eat cookies in the bed....

I was trying to find the "unnecessarily censored" version ("If you eat cookies in bed you'll get CR**S in the sheets....") This will have to do.

Edit: how did people not figure out that they were gay? Also, there were a whole lot of other dudes sleeping over...

[–] blarghly@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

She's now an ex, but still a friend. She just texted, asking how I'm doing

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago

She's in our bed

[–] ferrule@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

we went off to college and never talked again. I have no idea where she is or if she is still alive.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Obligatory wife acknowledgement.

But also obligatory Xkcd which honestly really sums up part of why I love being polyamorous. Even in my 30s I love the feeling of being up all night getting to know someone and figuring out how its all going to go. It's one of the true joys in life to me. Though I'll admit it doesn't happen at 3 am anymore, if I'm up that late my body gets mad at me

[–] 0ops@piefed.zip 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that there's an xkcd for this, but I still am

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

It was a formative one for me since I read it in high school and it impacted how I viewed relationships and nights of deep conversations.

Also obligatory acknowledgment that its funny weed number

Dude fuckin real.

[–] razorcandy@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 3 days ago

Most of those late night exchanges were once happy memories. Some of them still ongoing :) quality chat is worth sacrificing sleep for once in a while.

The only times I regret staying up late were when I had to tolerate unnecessary stress.

[–] jafra@slrpnk.net 8 points 3 days ago

Married now.

My time I enjoyed wasn't wasted. That was time I really got to live

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 7 points 3 days ago

That was almost 40 years ago. We stopped the phone calls once we got together, it's easier to talk in bed now. Also cheaper, those long distance bills then... :/

[–] 30p87@feddit.org 8 points 3 days ago

Rn, still there

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

she is keeping me up by snoring right next to me

[–] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

I never stayed up until 3 am talking to anyone

[–] Fiivemacs@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

no clue.. my phone doesn't get calls or messages from anyone anymore. I don't even know why I have it tbh... I keep checking if someone sent me any message in my personal life, and it's always no. I could move/change my number and I'm sure nobody would notice for a long long long time, if ever.

[–] zerozaku@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I hope you find somebody soon.

[–] MeatPilot@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

One of those past interactions. We stayed up drinking on the back porch talking until 3am than got assaulted by a massive inner city racoon and I had to bash it with a metal trashcan lid to stop it from charging us. Don't worry I didn't kill it. Thing was persistent, first time it backed off a few yards temporarily as if to fake me out and than turned around and came charging straight at us a second time. Felt like a hobo knight defending his punk rock maiden.

Everytime I see a raccoon digging in trash I think of our time together fondly.

Ok... Sending 45 messages at 3AM is not talking.... That's called harrassment Tyler...

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago

What if it's like my bestest online gaming buddy? I don't stay up that late anymore though.
