MODERATORS

This guy is literally messaging people after he gets downvoted because he doesn't like the word "Bro".

"Bro" was literally used as an expression of disbelief.

from atomicpoet @piefed.social

You’re receiving this message because I consider the word “bro” to be offensive, and I noticed you downvoted my request that a commenter avoid using it.

I want to politely ask that you not encourage language or behaviour that could bring toxicity into !fediversenews@piefed.social .

This is a friendly warning. If it happens again, I will have to issue a ban.

He's been reported on !yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com already

The Fediverse news community has been locked

!fediverse@piefed.social is a good alternative

[–] hddsx@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Did that count as a report of the admins on db0 have no control over piefed.social?

[–] wjs018@piefed.social 9 points 3 days ago

yptb is more a general community where people can go to air grievances about moderation decisions. So, it isn't like an official report or anything, but it just means that this moderator has been a topic of discussion in the past.

[–] Blaze@lemmy.zip 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

@rimu@piefed.social has seen that post and already removed that community from the https://piefed.social/topic/fediverse

@Skavau@piefed.social is going to do the same on https://piefed.social/f/fediverse

The community is locked anyway, just moving to !fediverse@piefed.social seems like the best thing to do

[–] Skavau@piefed.social 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Fediverse isn't my feed lol

[–] Blaze@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ah, sorry, I took this from Rimu. Do we know who is the owner of that feed?

[–] Skavau@piefed.social 1 points 3 days ago

Rimu apparently lol. He also made a fediverse feed

[–] wjs018@piefed.social 18 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Hey y'all...this was a fun thread to wake up to.

atomicpoet has been a bit of a recurring topic of discussion among admin/staff. My baseline position as an admin is that I am disinclined to intervene and tell community mods how they should or should not run their communities so long as they are not abusing the tools given to them for things like harassment. However, there are cases where, for the health of the community it might be beneficial to do so.

In this case, the actions we have taken included removing !fediversenews@piefed.social from the fediverse topic on piefed.social since the expected standard of community conduct seems to be out of line with many other areas of the fediverse. So we don't want to lead more tourists into the community and cause problems for them or a moderating burden for atomicpoet. There are already tons of existing fediverse communities out there that are active, I encourage people to just move to one of those if they don't like the moderating decisions of the community in question.

Most of atomicpoet's communities are modded only by him and posts mostly are his own. The biggest exception to this is !movies@piefed.social. Looking through past mod actions, it doesn't look like they are as strict in that community as with others, so I don't feel the need to intervene. However, this is a situation that we will keep an eye on going forward.

Something else that has come from this discussion is that it would be beneficial to have some baseline expectations for community moderators on piefed.social. So, I am going to work on adding a section to the site rules in the near future.

Just to add to this, I review the mod actions in !movies@piefed.social regularly, if someone sees anything that should be reported, feel free to reach out to me on Matrix (my account is in my bio)

I've never noticed your modding Blaze, after being in your communities for now... Years. Which means you're doing a damn fine job.

When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all

[–] Blaze@lemmy.zip 6 points 3 days ago

Well, thankfully on communities like !casualconversation@piefed.social or !lego@piefed.social there isn't a lot of moderation actions required. But thank you still for your kind words, always nice to see you around!

[–] ThorrJo@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 2 days ago

Thanks for the heads up, I'll be blocking his communities.

[–] marighost@piefed.social 13 points 3 days ago

They get pissy when you downvote them too.

[–] sk1nnym1ke@piefed.social 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

There is already an established community for those issues

!yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Unfortunately, the mods on that comm aren't much better than the ones they critique.

[–] Blaze@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

They're still considered the reference community in that field

The post mentions me in the title, but the only part of the massive body actually involving me is me answering a question about why I was temp banned for downvoting comments I disagreed with

[–] Blaze@lemmy.zip 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

More posts discussing the fallout:

Dbzer0 admin claiming Uyghur genocide is ‘overblown and misrepresented’

Dbzer0 admin casually defending Uyghur genocide denial because “libs worse”, yikes

Banned from meanwhileongrad for “No db0 allowed”.

On Dbzer0, ‘harassing mods’ is when you criticize the top admin of .ml for responding to a Wiki link with a Lemmy search

Out of those 4 posts, 3 were made by you, I didn't check the whole list

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Again, the body doesn't discuss me despite mentioning me in the title; my posts are linked to, but why you would link to someone else linking to my posts without comment as an addendum while discussing someone else instead of linking to my posts - since the end result is the same, except for the extraneous association with another argument - is deeply questionable.

This is not unlike when you repeatedly attempted to link me to the 196 move despite having nothing to do with the move.

So that people can read the several comments you made in that thread, as well as the dbzer0 users answers.

This is not unlike when you repeatedly attempted to link me to the 196 move despite having nothing to do with the move.

I updated my comments there, as I said at the time: https://lemmy.world/comment/18437409

Bringing up that point when I corrected it seems "deeply questionable" as well.

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Your 'correction' attempts to make the same connection as the original claim, it was nothing more than adding weasel words.

[–] Blaze@lemmy.zip 0 points 2 days ago

I removed what was incorrect.

Adding weasel words

People will judge

[–] remon@ani.social -2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

What's the point? Just block him and the 3 communities he mods and move on.

[–] hddsx@lemmy.ca 23 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Fdeiversenews seems like a perfectly good community. He doesn't seem like he has the temperment to mod, well, anything.

[–] remon@ani.social 4 points 3 days ago (2 children)
[–] Blaze@lemmy.zip 15 points 3 days ago

!fediverse@piefed.social is already established and active, seems easier than to restart a community from scratch

[–] mesamunefire@piefed.social 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yep. I don't want to flood the !fediverse with news. But I feel like the community themselves can make the community great or not. Mods should have a light hand unless absolutely nessessary.

[–] Blaze@lemmy.zip 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

!fediverse@piefed.social isn't really that active

If you look at !fediversenews@piefed.social you see that it wasn't that active either, the main poster was @Sunshine@piefed.ca who stopped posting there after a previous power trip from the same mod.

!fediverse@piefed.social also has flairs that @Snoopy@tarte.nuage-libre.fr spend time settinp up, including a "News/Update" one that people can filter out on Piefed if they wish to

[–] mesamunefire@piefed.social 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Maybe I was thinking of one if the Lemmy ones? I remember one community is getting slammed with news articles and drowning out any real discussion. But hey I'll keep this up and see if people use it.

[–] Blaze@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

But hey I’ll keep this up and see if people use it.

To quote Rimu

Consider joining !fediverse@piefed.social

We have two fediverse communities already, we don’t really need three :)

https://piefed.social/comment/8093045

Having too many communities gives posters and subscribers https://lawsofux.com/choice-overload/ , and it dilutes the already small activity. Most of the Fediverse discussions happen on !fediverse@lemmy.world anyway.

If you want to join as a mod on !fediverse@piefed.social, @Snoopy@tarte.nuage-libre.fr might appreciate the help

[–] Snoopy@tarte.nuage-libre.fr 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

@mesa@piefed.social

I do appreciate the help since it is not easy to find interesting content and animate this community. I'm lacking good source to achieve that. 😔
