I've seen this described as "the absolute minimum at the last possible second" - true, perhaps, somewhat, but still should be encouraged

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 6 points 3 days ago

i know. You're torn between pointing out this is the bare minimum - just short of lip service given how insane the US has gone, which has upped the stakes a bit - and at the same time encouraging the behaviour you want to see.

Good.

Disappointing to see so many shitty people back the Americans against our government on this. Traitors as far as I’m concerned.

Traitors as far as I’m concerned

I don't love this reasoning, because the same reasoning could be (and was) used to call people supporting Palestine/opposing genocide two months ago "traitors". These people are gross because they support genocide, not because they disagree with Australia foreign policy.

Indeed they are gross for supporting genocide, though by definition supporting the American position of retribution for our reasonable position here is traitorous, unlike that of those supporting Palestine. I’m not sure how else I can define support for ICE detaining Albo which was among a few things I’ve seen today. Not here of course.

Oh right, you're not just talking about people who disagree with Australian foreign policy, but people who would support actual crimes against our Government because of that disagreement?

People who support the US opposition to our acceptance of Palestinian sovereignty and say so. People who are happy to see our PM detained and us ‘punished’ for our position.

Conservatives.

What bothers me is Trump Maga don't even care about the Palestinians or the Israelis, they just want the land because of the Christian extremist beliefs.

Ballsy, especially after Republican threats. Here's hoping their idea of retaliation is cancelling AUKUS.

It's a beginning. 😊

Unless it exists how can rights and freedoms and a future be fought for.
