I really don't understand why the Dems are propping up an objectively horrible person.

I get why the pedo party is of course

[–] coffee_nutcase207@lemmy.world 83 points 5 days ago

Why don't we have Melissa Hortman rememberance day? She was actually a politician.

~~And I don't understand why they would choose October 14th, which is George Floyd's birthday.~~

edit: Apparently it's his birthday as well.

Just refuse to acknowledge Carotid Artery Charlie and hijack that shit right back:

[–] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 18 points 5 days ago

Because it's a chance to tacitly insult the late George Floyd, his family and friends, all his supporters, the 'other team', and the entire anti-racism movement that has pissed them off so much. They're not going to pass up an opportunity like that.

Early christians decided to make Xmas in December to align with when pagans were celebrating winter solstice, in order to appropriate the holiday for themselves.

Not saying that's entirely the reason, but it sure is convenient for them to add their noise.

It’s because the democratic party at large is a fascist-lite party, so they have little qualms about honoring full blown fascists. That and they love nothing more than propping up the idea that we need to keep decorum up at all times.

Performative civility. The dems would hold a vigil for Hitler if their consultants said it would appeal to uncommitted moderate voters.

[–] Red0ctober@lemmy.world 20 points 5 days ago

Something something decorum.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 days ago

Because they are cucks. They like to watch our country get f***ed.

I went and tried to find some redeeming quality about him and left with nothing. Still shouldn't have been killed but man he's not a person you would want to have a national holiday dedicated to.

[–] Anti_Iridium@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago

tried to find some redeeming quality about him

He is dead? I'll take what I can get these days.

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 22 points 5 days ago

We should have a paid public holiday for all the school shootings. Otherwise known as ubi.

He's a influencer wtf. Yes no one should be murdered but he's an influencer are we saying the kids that are shot to death in school don't matter? Are we saying only when the rich and powerful in politics are murdered does it matter? I don't remember anything for the CEO of United healthcare.

Democrats stop appeasing the fascist!

[–] blargh513@sh.itjust.works 19 points 5 days ago (1 children)

They are complicit. We would not be here if they did their job. That leaves two options: they are wholly incompetent, stupid and unable or they knew and let it happen.

So many points could have prevented our current mess in just the last 10 years, much less the last 50 when this really started.

One easy example. When Scalia died, republicans made up the rule that his replacement could not be appointed by Obama because he was within a few months of the end of his term. Democrats did fucking NOTHING. There was no law that prevented appointintment, they were just being pussies.

That is one easy example that was well known. Now do that for 50 years and do it in every corner of government. They were more than happy to keep up the charade of opposing republicans as long as they got paid. They are the fucking Washington Nationals of politics.

It's rough to see how spineless many of the Democrats are. It's difficult for us in Europe to understand but the democrats are quite right-wing, akin to the conservative party in the UK for example. So when people see the supposed 'left-wing' party in the US pulling shit like this it confuses them.

[–] selkiesidhe@sh.itjust.works 21 points 4 days ago

Fuck that.

I ain't celebrating the life of some racist misogynistic shithead.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 19 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

The democrats (most of them) are such fucking cucks.

[–] wildcardology@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

Disgusting.

[–] nozone@sh.itjust.works 26 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Hijack the day and turn it into a memorial for all gun violence victims, it will piss off the Republicans and maybe do a little good. Probably not though.

What an absolutely disgusting display for a monstrous human. It's like having a national day of mourning after they killed Dracula.

Well, this is what happens when half your government is blood drinking monsters and the other half exists only to appease blood drinking monsters

They f-ing agreed to that? OK, they are beyond help.

[–] 3abas@lemmy.world 10 points 5 days ago

They are nice fascists, and the sooner liberals realize that, the sooner you can move on to revolution and fix the country.

This makes me feel sick

[–] grue@lemmy.world 21 points 4 days ago

Celebrate Kirk's death. Burn him in effigy. Call it "a good start."

Democrats don't want to be attacked by the right wing extremists, so they coddle them and give them what they want.

This is exactly how Nazi Germany came to be and we need to stop acting like it's not.

Charlie Kirk is personally responsible for many people committing suicide due to his harsh views and his viewers base that spews hate at people they don't like.

He deserves nothing.

[–] Bwaz@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago

That's ridiculous.

[–] MedicPigBabySaver@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago

Each vote by a POS idiot.

The short sighted idiots don't see that is not just innocently agreeing to making a special day for a dead guy that ultimately doesn't matter. It's bait for the regime to punish those who criticize and mock the day. There will be people who lose jobs and worse over this farce.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 9 points 4 days ago

I was cut off in traffic today and they had written "God bless Charlie Kirk" on their back window which just made me even angrier than the fact they cut me off.

I expected some quislings in the house, but the entire senate? Do better, dems. At least tell us what you got for this n

[–] JailElonMusk@sopuli.xyz 12 points 5 days ago

I don't know about you guys, but I'm going to donate to an LGBTQ+ organization to Celebrate a New Tradition for my favorite holiday.

I'll make a $20 donation in his honor, come on guys we can start a tradition.

[–] 13igTyme@piefed.social 11 points 5 days ago

So now were honoring dead Nazis?

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 6 points 4 days ago

He will condone the bad in order to prevent the worse and in so doing no longer discern that the very thing that he seems to avoid as worse might well be better. This is where the basic material of tragedy is to be found.

House Speaker Mike Johnson said on Thursday that the House of Representative will "soon pass a resolution honoring the life and legacy of our friend Charlie Kirk, and condemning the political violence that led to his untimely passing."

On Friday, the House also approved the resolution, despite 96 Democrats declining to support it.

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whose husband Paul was the victim to political violence himself, was among the 22 Democrats who walked out without voting on the Kirk resolution, but did vote on the short-term government funding bill. Four Republicans also skipped the vote.

"Charlie was a good man -- a devout husband, father, and friend. His life was shaped by his faith and the idea that in America, debate and discussion are crucial to the betterment of our country," Scott said on Thursday.

Kirk was almost certainly a demagogue who believed in nothing and was willing to shill any copytext from oligarchs and the American far right for his own material benefit. Only a fool would deny the irony of Kirk getting a taste of his own medicine (one last time).

But the funny thing is that they are showing extreme disrespect to Kirk (after he was gunned down no less) by essentially stating that he was a gullible idiot who lacked the mental capacity to evaluate American political culture. And how was his life shaped by faith? If his life was shaped by faith he wouldn't have focused on politics.

Fucking traitorous scum!

Vote BLUE No Matter WHO (UNLESS The Blue is someone the DNC DOESNT like!) so we can Turn this Holiday BACK to nothing! IF we can Convince ALL THE DEMOCRATS WHO VOTED FOR IT to Change their votes!

Can I celebrate the remembrance by watching the clip of him getting shot on repeat?
