Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

There were two “Reigns of Terror,” if we would but remember it and consider it; the one wrought murder in hot passion, the other in heartless cold blood; the one lasted mere months, the other had lasted a thousand years; the one inflicted death upon ten thousand persons, the other upon a hundred millions; but our shudders are all for the “horrors” of the minor Terror, the momentary Terror, so to speak; whereas, what is the horror of swift death by the axe, compared with lifelong death from hunger, cold, insult, cruelty, and heart-break? What is swift death by lightning compared with death by slow fire at the stake? A city cemetery could contain the coffins filled by that brief Terror which we have all been so diligently taught to shiver at and mourn over; but all France could hardly contain the coffins filled by that older and real Terror—that unspeakably bitter and awful Terror which none of us has been taught to see in its vastness or pity as it deserves.

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

The Country of the Week is Palestine! Feel free to chime in with books, essays, longform articles, even stories and anecdotes or rants. More detail here.

Here is the map of the Ukraine conflict, courtesy of Wikipedia.

The weekly update is here.

The bulletins site is down.

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists

Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Add to the above list if you can.

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

I'm not even sure how I ended up here. One minute I was disproving some factually incorrect lib takes about China on Reddit (and got banned from r/worldnews for citing actual data, I guess), then I started following the Ukraine conflict and wondering why the news stories went from "OORAH we're pushing to the sea by the winter" to "oh look at me we took another tree line but the Russians are definitely still losing more men despite being in a defensive position against, at best, an equal attacker," then somehow I ended up on Lemmy where people were posting more demonstrably and factually incorrect comments, and now this Palestine conflict just has American media lying through their teeth.

Were things just better in Canadian media because Canadians don't care as much about foreign affairs (we have no influence anyway and propagandizing us is sort of uselesss)? Has American media always been this bad? Is it just conflict-driven propaganda? Chinese online communities aren't this one-sided, either. Is something just wrong with America?

Do the towns that Hamas has captured have access to water? Could Hamas be occupying the towns to retain a water supply?

A gas pipeline (and some kind of data cable) that runs between Finland and Estonia was apparently damaged, possibly "sabotaged". No one knows shit, but investigations are ongoing. As usual the warhawks have already blamed the Russians. https://yle.fi/a/74-20054419

Remember Lord Miles, that British dude who got captured by the Taliban because he thought it would be neat to see the fall of Kabul? He fuckin lived.
His friends kept posting that he was chilling and playing videogames under house arrest and they were actually telling the truth

Haven’t seen anything definitive but feeling seems to be that ground invasion is indeed going to happen now. Otherwise what are the evacuation order and huge troop movements for?And with the deadlines given, it does seem like today is probably the day. Only thing I could see delaying it would be logistics. Seems like troops and armor still mustering at the border. Maybe they’ll push it off another day or two, but sure seems like it could start at any time.

Really weird when a local liberal politician who hasn't been on social media for a while pops up to post videos of some guy saying "actually Jewish people can't be doing an occupation in the Levant because my schismatic sect of the religion broke with two thousand years of Jewish thought and practice in the 1880s and now manifest destiny lebensraum right of return!"

Lebanon PM hints that Hezbollah has not ruled out entering Gaza-Israel war

🔶️ Lebanon’s caretaker prime minister said Friday that he had not been given any assurances from Hezbollah about the Iran-backed group not getting dragged into the Gaza-Israel war.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Israeli airstrikes on Syrian territory could trigger an armed escalation across the entire region.

The ministry described the strikes as a blatant violation of Syria's sovereignty and fundamental norms of international law.

My dad is on his usual incessant news watching and its funny see just how all over the place the reporting on the 'Hamas harming babies' story is. One channel has pulled back entirely just claiming that Hamas were killing and burning people indiscriminately. Another says that Biliken did indeed see pictures of babies, but they were "filled with bullets or burned". And now yet another channel is reporting that there are pictures of beheaded babies. Like, on the one hand I guess the American propaganda machine doesn't need to do much anymore since there are still many who eat all this shit up, but on the other how is it that they can't get the story straight? I'm sure they still want to convince those who are on the fence about this. Yet they can't even decide on how to kill babies in a way that will draw the most outrage.

One of the pigs who murdered Elijah Mclain was sentenced to day. Apparently he was negligent in his commission of homicide. Redditors talking about it helpfully reminded me that kkkrackers in this country are bootlicking scum.

Started researching origins of Israel/Palestine beginning in the Bronze Ages til present to dunk on everyone with their shitty takes. I am and never have been a big history person, but I've more or less gone through the Bronze Ages - 1940's and figured out surrounding context for myself, just need to flesh out my notes. I'd love suggestions on what to study that could be important to getting an advanced grasp on the relations over the years, from any time period. Plsthx

Iraqi parliament urges activation of Arab Defense Treaty against Israel

🔶️ During a Saturday session on the Israeli aggression against Gaza, Iraqi lawmakers condemned the “brutal practices and crimes committed by the Zionist occupation forces against the Palestinian people,” according to a statement released after the session.

🔶️ The Iraqi legislators also called for efforts to “activate the League’s Charter considering that any attack on a member is an attack on the Arab countries, activate the Joint Arab Defense Treaty, and address the free world to stand by the Palestinian people, in addition to calling on the United Nations to prevent the killing and deportation of the Palestinian people.”

A lot of people here wanted to know how troops would get from Iran past Iraq. Here's your answer.

https://avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century/arabjoin.asp

Article 2

The Contracting States consider any [act of] armed aggression made against any one or more of them or their armed forces, to be directed against them all. Therefore, in accordance with the right of self-defense, individually and collectively, they undertake to go without delay to the aid of the State or States against which such an act of aggression is made, and immediately to take, individually and collectively, all steps available, including the use of armed force, to repel the aggression and restore security and peace. In conformity with Article 6 of the Arab League Pact and Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, the Arab League Council and U. N. Security Council shall be notified of such act of aggression and the means and procedure taken to check it.

To play arm-chair strategist for a sec: if Hezbollah joins the war, my guess is they'd attack after the anticipated invasion of Gaza is well underway. Idea being to ensnare (a sizable chunk of) the IDF in the south before levying the second punch from the north.
