Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

MODERATORS

There were two “Reigns of Terror,” if we would but remember it and consider it; the one wrought murder in hot passion, the other in heartless cold blood; the one lasted mere months, the other had lasted a thousand years; the one inflicted death upon ten thousand persons, the other upon a hundred millions; but our shudders are all for the “horrors” of the minor Terror, the momentary Terror, so to speak; whereas, what is the horror of swift death by the axe, compared with lifelong death from hunger, cold, insult, cruelty, and heart-break? What is swift death by lightning compared with death by slow fire at the stake? A city cemetery could contain the coffins filled by that brief Terror which we have all been so diligently taught to shiver at and mourn over; but all France could hardly contain the coffins filled by that older and real Terror—that unspeakably bitter and awful Terror which none of us has been taught to see in its vastness or pity as it deserves.

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

The Country of the Week is Palestine! Feel free to chime in with books, essays, longform articles, even stories and anecdotes or rants. More detail here.

Here is the map of the Ukraine conflict, courtesy of Wikipedia.

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists

Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Last week's discussion post.

I'm glad I live in an area with a strong leftist presence that actually goes against the pro-NATO narrative. It's part of why I've spent most of my time here and not on Reddit. Some parts of the West are more open to leftism than others, but NATO countries in particular have the biggest uphill battle with how strongly tied they are to the current world order.

That doesn't mean leftists shouldn't continue to fight the good fight, but they also shouldn't expect a revolution or sudden shift in their lifetime. It will require many generations of leftists but it will pay off.

Feel like I've had some kind of breakthrough on how the US propaganda system works and that most westerners have been successfully MK-ULTRAed to respond to certain triggers at like 3am while literally shitposting on the toilet.

A real glasses-off glasses-on moment.

Evidence of tanks at the music festival (NSFW):

Note that it is not clear when the tanks arrived, and we may never know that much, but they were definitely at the festival while fighting was going on.

One thing I will say is that the picture of the Aleppo bombing the runway shows exactly how deep you need to be thinking about when it comes to your guerilla tunnels.

That's runway too, not just plain dirt. If you want your tunnels to be airstrike safe you need to be thinking minimum of that depth and reinforced.

October 7th was not the first time that resistance fighters utilized gliders to fly over our occupied lands.

Today, we remember the Night of the Gliders operation carried out by the Syrian Arab martyr Khaled Aker and the Tunisian Arab martyr Milood bin Al-Najjah on behalf of the PFLP-GC on November 25th 1987.

Our heroes flew into an IOF base in occupied Palestine on hang gliders all the way from Syrian-controlled South Lebanon armed with AK-47s, silenced pistols, and hand grenades. Aker was captured and martyred. Al-Najjah swept in, killing six IOF soldiers and injuring eight more as he fired his AK at the usurpers without mercy and hurled grenades into IOF tents.

These martyrs were hailed as heroes, and the slogan "six to one" or "6:1" became popular among Palestinians mocking settlers in Gaza. Just two weeks later, the first intifada was declared from Gaza, and this heroic operation undoubtedly sparked it.

Victory to our resistance!
Glory to our falcons!
Glory to our martyrs!

Just last week the media in Canada was talking about how the Conservative Party had a new base of support in Muslim immigrants as they both opposed inclusion of LGBT issues in education. (How much of this support was real versus manufactured by the media I can't say). This led to a lot of liberals showing their true colours, dehumanising and insulting Muslims in Canada. But now with the Palestine conflict coming front and centre in the media cycle, I wonder if the inherent split between the Conservatives' interests and their supposed base of Muslim support has become apparent faster than expected. While many conservatives never stopped being xenophobic I think pundits were hoping they could keep it on the down low until the next election. However with many Canadians publically making calls for genocide in Palestine, that ship has sailed

Gotta say that I'm pleasantly surprised by the patsoc types like Jackson Hinkle actually being principled and openly cutting through the insane western media propaganda in recent days. It would've been very easy for them to fall back into the classic "muslim horde" mode of racism that many on the pro-Russian side in Ukraine sadly subscribe to. These people aren't exactly leftists, but their brand of politics has matured since the media insanity of Ukraine and many of them have progressed from what I saw as pure grifting. No matter how shitty some of them are, it still takes real balls to go against the dominant western narrative on not just Ukraine, but also Israel. They could've been like any "working class" Trump Republican who hates Ukraine to own the libs, but is now frothing at the mouth just wanting to kill Muslims. Guys like Hinkle were better than that, and they deserve some credit for being a little brave in this shitty world.

Seems WAY too optimistic, but I'm getting the sense that the US is sending a second carrier group as a contingency for some real failed state scenario. Israel is a nuclear power after all, and if things go truly sideways, they are going to do everything they can to ensure those weapons don't end up in the hands of Palestine or Syria.

No matter how you slice it, the amount of resources being allocated for the defense of the apartheid regime does not instill confidence that they have everything under control.

Alternately, it could just be an intelligence ploy to see how nations respond wherever the fleet is being withdrawn from.

At some point we need a way of collecting sources of disinformation and evidence to disprove it (as well as counters to the most common arguments). I'm sick of having to do the same work every time because another lib has a factually incorrect take.

Former Israeli defense official says bombardment of Gaza should continue until Hamas is 'ashes' | AP News

A former Israeli defense official told the Associated Press Thursday that Israel should continue bombarding Gaza for as long as militants remain in the territory, even if it incurs massive casualties to Israeli soldiers.

Yaakov Amidror, a retired General and senior fellow at JINSA, a Washington D.C.-based think tank, said that Israel would "bomb any attempt to build military capability in the in the Gaza Strip for the next hundred years," raising the specter of an unending military engagement in Gaza.

"We need to crush Hamas to ashes, no matter how many casualties," Amidror said. "Of course, we will give all means to our soldiers to defend themselves. but I don't think casualties are the main element in decision-making."

At least the people at the openly pro-war think tanks don't try to appear human. I'm just as creeped out when Joe Shmuck of the Yada Yada Institute for Peace uses euphemisms but is much of a monster when he says "The IDF will likely need to be aggressive in Gaza to neutralize the Hamas terrorist threats. It is an unfortunate necessity." He makes it seem like the IDF is a basketball team that uses sharp elbows.

Al-Jazeera: Hamas: We appreciate the Russian President’s position of rejecting the aggression and the Zionist siege of Gaza, and we welcome the Russian efforts aimed at stopping the Zionist aggression.
