Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

MODERATORS

There were two “Reigns of Terror,” if we would but remember it and consider it; the one wrought murder in hot passion, the other in heartless cold blood; the one lasted mere months, the other had lasted a thousand years; the one inflicted death upon ten thousand persons, the other upon a hundred millions; but our shudders are all for the “horrors” of the minor Terror, the momentary Terror, so to speak; whereas, what is the horror of swift death by the axe, compared with lifelong death from hunger, cold, insult, cruelty, and heart-break? What is swift death by lightning compared with death by slow fire at the stake? A city cemetery could contain the coffins filled by that brief Terror which we have all been so diligently taught to shiver at and mourn over; but all France could hardly contain the coffins filled by that older and real Terror—that unspeakably bitter and awful Terror which none of us has been taught to see in its vastness or pity as it deserves.

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

The Country of the Week is Palestine! Feel free to chime in with books, essays, longform articles, even stories and anecdotes or rants. More detail here.

Here is the map of the Ukraine conflict, courtesy of Wikipedia.

The weekly update is here.

Links and Stuff

The bulletins site is down.

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists

Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Add to the above list if you can.

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Last week's discussion post.

This seems fine

In messages circulated on Friday, State Department staff wrote that high-level officials do not want press materials to include three specific phrases: “de-escalation/ceasefire,” “end to violence/bloodshed” and “restoring calm.”

listen here kiddo, i get it. i dont like the two state solution

and quite frankly, i dont wanna support hamas, it feels like supporting terrorists

but im gonna do it, you wanna know why?

because the alternative is a fucking genocide

a genocide! its a genocide!

so maybe we can have a conversation around dismantling the terror network when a genocide isnt happening

maybe we can do that later kiddo. champ. chief. maybe we can talk about it later

Imagine, you're Palestinian, born in a refugee camp, your family is from Asqalan. You managed to kill several colonizers but you're caught, and you're condemned to life in prison. You spend 22 years behind bars before being liberated in a prisoner exchange, and then after a few years you're elected head of Hamas in Gaza, and manage to project - then and for years - the image of a pragmatic, someone ready to collaborate. Disgusting words like "reconciliation" are bandied about.

Meanwhile you're implementing the greatest Palestinian military action in 50 years, completely secretly.

King shit

The attack on that rave certainly really does feel like it's super fucking symbolic. Think about it, bougie settlers holding a treat rave party next to an open air concentration camp. The inmates break free and do some righteous violence. The media knows it, Israel knows it, it's so slimy the way it's being used along with the beheaded babies to drum up the war. Israel is such a wormy, guilty, evil country, that it has to know deep down this blowback was decades rightfully in the making.

Three important tactics to follow when commenting on the crisis on reddit-logo :

  • Browse by New or Rising. You want to get in early.
  • Make liberal use reddit's block feature. Respond to and then immediately block any Zionists. Because of reddit's stupid design of their block feature, they will be unable to comment on any comment trees where your comment is higher up on the parent comment heirarchy. If you are down in the "show more comments" are, go back up to the top and respond to higher comments, which will lock the people you have blocked out of comments below. The downside is that users you have blocked comment before you, you can't respond, but that's what alts and also the first tactic is for.
  • If you get blocked first, find their account and block them back. It will lock you both out of the comment tree.

Israel is really an excellent essay on how nation-states are formed, the ways in which they are painfully artificial, and the lengths and violence their architects had to go to to create a singular "nation" with no ethnic or linguistic dissidents who could oppose the project. Like i think it's hard to convey to modern people that nation-states as a concept are really only 2-300 years old, that people prior to that didn't think of themselves as "Americans" or "English" or "German" the way we do, and that the creation of these entities required both a lot of theoretical development and I guess media or propaganda, but also a lot of very real violence, both cultural and physical. Paris's careful cultural genocide against minority French language groups and cultures to enforce Parisian language and culture across France, the creation of Germanness to unite the German language groups, that's all way in the past, but you can watch Israel do it over the last 70ish years - Creating everyday Hebrew out of liturgical Hewbrew and making it a commonly used language in Israel, basically re-writing Jewish theology and religion to suit the needs of the nation-state, the use of overt and clandestine violence against competing ideologies and interpretations of zionism, as well as non-zionists. It's much easier to see.

Libs: No one is defending Hamas' actions

Me:

Technically it's more that I am broadly defending Palestians rights to launch attacks in Israel under the right of self defense that is a right of all nations, and that Israel made Hamas inevitable through it's actions.

"You're reading off of last week's script, here's this ones"

the-democrat ...whoops, what I meant to say was "This unprovoked act of aggression is absolutely unconscionable, there is no justification for this violence. We must send unlimited and unrestricted support to the IDF immediately"

Israeli Defense Minister orders siege on Gaza: "There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel. We are fighting human animals and we will act accordingly."

The Palestinians in Gaza are being referred to like the Germans referred to the Jews in Auschwitz. Absolutely depraved. This statement will be in the history books for centuries so we will Never Forget the barbaric Zionist regime and their crimes.

edited this comment from "Gaza has become Auschwitz" to the above so that it's a little less of a direct comparison, which is inappropriate (besides, as pointed out, there are better historical analogies)

Liberals: I would support the oppressed rising up against their oppressors

Oppressed: rise up against their oppressors

Liberals: Terrorists! They should have accepted the peace offered by their oppressors! Both sides are bad, but we need to send billions of dollars worth of weapons to the oppressors so they can put the oppressed back in their place!

Thank you Israel for uniting the Arab World again. Even racist Saudis on Twitter are now realizing that there's literally nothing redeemable about the West anymore. It's really cool how they all realized that our lives aren't valuable to them, they'll freeze our assets like they did with the Russians if we ever piss them off and the average Westerner supports the killing of Arabs without batting an eye. Arabs and Muslims only have the people of the third world on their side, the westerners are useless.

Collective punishment of Palestinian people. A humanitarian crisis. The imminent threat and certainty of worse to come. These are not defensive actions by Israel. These are crimes. On the world's watch.

No equivocating, no "right to defend itself", no straight to the point and calling out the injustice.

It would be nice if the US media took a break from non-stop interviewing Israeli families with people kidnapped by Hamas. Instead - the media could at least mention Israel's relentless raining death and destruction on Gaza.

Every eyewitness account from friends in #Gaza is the same: Israel's bombing is like nothing they've ever experienced before. No pretense of "targeted strikes" on Hamas, just wanton, indiscriminate destruction of whole neighborhoods. Entire families obliterated in an instant.

"My eldest son is 9, he asked me if he died would he go to heaven or hell?" our @MedicalAidPal friend and colleague Mahmoud Shalabi told us. A thought playing out in the minds of a million children currently under bombardment with no escape. How can any human heart accept this?

A world rightly horrified just a day ago by stories of entire families killed, or huddling terrified together for hours wondering if they would live, is... suddenly absolutely fine with it when it is a different family just a few miles away? How do we account for this?

I hope all those centrists in LGBTQ+ communities are well-aware that if Israel gets away with slaughtering 2.2 million Palestinians, if the "garden", the "international community" turns a blind eye to it, then what's stopping them from turning a blind eye when the far right eventually goes full throttle on trans genocide?

Egyptian Authorities are refusing to let US nationals leave Gaza unless the US forces Israel to accept the Rafah Border Crossing be a designated aid crossing where Egyptian and International Aid can be brought to Gaza.

No aid allowed to pass = No US or European foreigner can leave.

Zionists are either some of the stupidest people or the most evil liars you can possibly encounter. I can't tell you the number of times I have seen asshole say that Gaza isn't a ghetto or concentration camp (which itself is a distinction largely without a difference) because it has a high birth rate. You know, high birth rates, that thing you find in stable and prosperous places like Western Europe or Japan.

Morales welcomed Hamas' actions on the people of Israel and maintained that the policy of the “democratic and cultural revolution” promoted by his administration was “in defense of Palestine.” He then argued that the Foreign Ministry's note “was biased” and reflected “one more sign of the right wing of the Government” of President Luis Arce Catacora.

“The Bolivian people will always condemn the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestinian Territories, the systematic aggressions against the Palestinian people, and their struggle for independence. Those are the real causes of the conflict, not to denounce them is to be an accomplice,” said Evo on X. He also regretted that the Bolivian Foreign Ministry did “not denounce with political coherence the real situation that the Palestinian people are going through” and condemned “the imperialist and colonial actions of the Zionist Israeli government.” Morales insisted that “solidarity among peoples is the basis of a more just and dignified society,” and questioned that “it is not possible for a government of the Democratic and Cultural Revolution to defend the invasionist and expansionist policy of Israel.”

“When a people defends its sovereignty they call it terrorist. But when the United States finances wars, armed invasions, coups d'état, and assassinations, they speak of democracy,” he underlined.
