Fuck that Russian company! time to install the single player tarkov mod just because the devs don’t like it.

[–] biotin7@sopuli.xyz 1 points 21 minutes ago

Play xonotic instead.

[–] TheObviousSolution@lemmy.ca 18 points 3 hours ago

They are just doing this to cash out, it costs them nothing to provide a Steam key.

[–] Sabata11792@ani.social 6 points 2 hours ago

I regret buying it the first time.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 hours ago

huh, I was interested in picking this up

Guess not

Paying for a cheater infested pvp game is not something I can see myself doing.

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 10 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I quite like the singleplayer mod. Also the devs apparently support the russian invasion of Ukraine, so don't give them your money anyway.

[–] excursion22@piefed.ca 1 points 1 hour ago

I agree, Single Player Tarkov was the only way I found the game playable. The bots could be decently balanced so there was still some challenge and risk to the game.

Yeah fuck this game in particular. Made by a Russian company with ties to their defense industry.

I was going to make an argument that it was probably just research for their real world gun implementation, then I read the article. Big yikes.

[–] dukemirage@lemmy.world -1 points 8 hours ago

Some more sources would've been great.

[–] purplerabbit@piefed.blahaj.zone 50 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Damn, this developer is really hell bent on pissing off its fanbase, isn't it?

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 7 points 13 hours ago

They in business of making money... like the rest of them. These clowns are full of themselves.

Discerning gamer should be taking notice, idiots will pay.

[–] NoForwadSlashS@piefed.social 23 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

And not a single person was surprised

[–] Damarus@feddit.org 5 points 8 hours ago

Yeah it would be the exception for a game that comes to Steam later in its life to give out Steam keys to current owners.

I haven't read the article, but just going off the title, if that's accurate: isn't that how it'd be for any game? I'm not defending it but the only platform I've seen devs give Steam keys to players for ownership on has been on itch.io.

People don't suddenly get rewarded cross-platform ownership just because they bought it on one platform. Same with Unrailed, had it come out on Switch first and Steam later, etc.; they must re-buy if they want it on Steam. Same with Slay the Spire: existing Steam owners don't suddenly gain Android access just because it released on Droid, etc.

[–] Taiatari@lemmy.world 5 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Was the same for ESO, if you bought it before it made its way to steam you would have to buy it again through steam if you want to play it through steam.

[–] Croquette@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Doesn't mean it isn't scummy. In today's day and age, where you can link every platform with every other platform, they could have integrated their existing account system with Steam and make the game available to people that already own the game.

But there is more money to squeeze out of their playerbase.

[–] Taiatari@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

I never said I agree with their decision. I only pointed out that Bethesda did the exact same thing with ESO.

[–] hedgehog@ttrpg.network 7 points 11 hours ago

The system is still “PC” in this case, even if technically the platform is different. And since you have to log into your account with their service, they can easily confirm that you own the game.

I don’t have to create an account to play Slay the Spire on Android.

Looked for a Tarkov alternative with pve option (because I don't need any more sodium in my diet) and found gray zone warfare. It's a pre alpha and is in a pretty playable state, plus it's an entire open world which is fantastic.

[–] alphabethunter@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Soon, in October, we'll have a new demo for Road to Vostok, a fully pve extraction game made by a single dev that, quite honestly, looks amazing. You should check it out. I think the EA version will come out in 2026.

[–] femtek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I played that but it was too sim for me, seems like fun if you want an unforgiving game.

[–] godreignz@lemmy.zip 6 points 11 hours ago (1 children)
[–] CarbonatedPastaSauce@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

What? Tarkov is well known for how it coddles the player base and hand holds newbies.

[–] godreignz@lemmy.zip 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

The only thing Tarkov coddles is its developer Nikita. I know of numerous people who've tried it and said it's just TOO complex. I've played Gray Zone, and it's nowhere near as difficult and fully of bullshit as EFT.

[–] CarbonatedPastaSauce@lemmy.world 6 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

My man…. as someone with a few hundred hours in Tarkov…. that was heavy sarcasm. lol

[–] Phunter@lemmy.zip 3 points 9 hours ago

I tend to describe EFT's learning curve as "hostile".

[–] godreignz@lemmy.zip 3 points 9 hours ago

Fucking hell, I missed it completely lol

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 12 hours ago

No. They don't "have to". Wake up, fellow poors. Stop giving your money away. If "buying" doesn't equal "ownership", et al...
