George Zinn, who allegedly fabricated a confession in the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, has been arrested on charges of obstruction of justice and possession of child sexual abuse material, Utah authorities said.

Zinn, 71, was arrested at the scene of the September 10 shooting at Utah Valley University in Orem after shouting, "I shot him, now shoot me." He later told investigators he faked the confession to help the real suspect—later identified as Tyler Robinson—escape, according to a probable cause statement.

Authorities said an investigation into Zinn led to the discovery of explicit material on his phone, including more than 20 images of children between the ages of 5 and 12. Court records also cite graphic messages in which Zinn admitted to being aroused by the material.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, FBI agents interviewed Zinn at the hospital where he was taken after complaining of chest pain. During that interview, Zinn admitted to viewing child sexual abuse material and said he was "sexually aroused" by children.

Investigators reportedly found images of underage girls in their underwear on his phone.

Why did they make a statement to saying they released him if they knew he had kiddie porn?

Did they really release him after the fact then arrest him again?!

This guy also had a weird connection to Ronald Reagan's administration and the 1988 RNC. This is all so fucking weird.

I feel like it just cannot be a coincidence that all these men are pedophiles. Did they try to cover for him and get caught?

I think this is all to save face after Patel made a (bigger) fool of himself on TV claiming they had the shooter when they didnt. This man is the local whackadoo and has restraining orders against him barring him from contacting certain government officials and the LDS church. He was also arrested just after the Boston Marathon bombing for making a post asking the Salt Lake Marathon officials if he could help them place their bombs at the finish line of the race.

It's hard to say though.

I could see that, but also isn't that hard to believe he was there to intentionally help distract after the shooting.

Or hard to believe he's got some connections within the Republican party that would have allowed him to just walk away initially even though he had child porn on his phone.

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 hours ago

I seriously doubt he had any connection to the shooter and was just seizing the opportunity to create confusion and disruption as that is his M.O. at public meetings and other events from what is being reported about him.

If you were going to assassinate someone and wanted to get away clean, collaborating with an associate whose job it is to take the blame and get arrested on the spot is just about the dumbest possible option since they could easily give you up while in police custody.

As far as the CP, police may have cloned the contents of his phone and not discovered it until later or perhaps they waited for the prosecutor to decide since the article mentions they were in their underwear in the images, which might not be so cut and dry.

Either way I still think all the publicity around this is just an attempt to save face after they looked like fools. They're coming down hard on whomever they can to make themselves look less inept.

Like, I'm not going to go down the conspiracy route, but this also feels like all the narratives are devolving into an unbound spool of thread.

Pedo ideology attracts pedos who cover for each other out of pedo ideology, while axxusing everyone else of pedophilia and conspiracies to desensitize to those allegations, create a smoke screen?

It's not deep, and it's barely a conspiracy, but there it is.

Watching all this insanity play out since they've cleaned house and tried to remove anyone who isn't a loyalist, and then being forced to listen to their insane explanations that just make no sense whatsoever, is like getting a glimpse into what it must be like to be part of MAGA and look to these people to guide you.

The experience of this being who I have to turn to by default for an explanation of what is happening. Being gaslit with explanations that never make any sense or address all the weird shit they've unintentionally exposed while trying to distract from something else.

And like every time it seems like you caught them red handed. There is no way they can keep denying this and getting away with it. But then they do just spin it on to someone else.

Like I can't help but think what if I actually trusted these people? What if this was like an abusive relationship where you want to believe so badly all their lies and excuses, and all their attempts to explain why it's not what it looks like.

But your abuser gets off on the thrill of somehow always getting away with it. So they just keep escalating, and each attempt at a new explanation just gets more and more far fetched. Until one day you find yourself standing in a random D.C. pizzaria taking hostages and demanding the children be freed from the basement?

Like I think I kinda get how that could happen.

Because it is exactly like that. I've been on the receiving end of an abusive relationship - the similarities here are astounding.

I guess? Maybe it just hits different if you're not the group having a murder that was most likely carried out by a ring of narcissistic pedophiles somehow blamed on you?

Like so many people being psychologically and financially abused on such a large scale by a group of narcissists who are also carrying out sexual abuse via their global pedophile network they fund with the money they steal from the people they control.

Like it's not that I didn't realize Trump/the GOP was doing all this, I just never really had to think about it from the perspective of his supporters. On the one hand they're adults that looked at this guy and made the decision for some reason to get involved, but I've also never really attempted to sort through a Trump only explanation looking for any possible scraps of truth that line up with reality?

Like during his last presidency he would say insane blatantly obvious lies, and we would just kinda roll our eyes and turn to somebody that wasn't a cartoon. But he fired or demoted everyone with competence and now it's like we all have no choice but to listen to the narrative being controlled like by an IRL cast of Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Your mistake is thinking like conservatives have the same faculties as you. They don't.

The thing they aim to do when they communicate, and the means by which they do it, are entirely different. Their words are not specific symbols for constructing meaning, but vibesy triggers for existing structures of meaning. It means they're a lot more sensitive–one could say 'reactive' to that, but words do not 'mean' things to them in the same way they 'mean' things to you and I.

Likewise, when they talk, they're not saying what the words they're saying literally mean. They're howling. Signalling to the pack or trying to get a response in an entirely interiority-free chinese-room sort of way.

True. The same shadowy think tank that steered Reagan's administration has been trying to overthrow the government for nearly 50 years. They're also currently steering Trump's administration as they instigate a civil war, but just bc this guy:

•happened to be in the crowd •Distracted the crowd immediately after the shooting by claiming he did it and helping the shooter escape while everyone's back was turned •coincidentally happens to be a member of club ped(o) •has a cutesy little back story about sleeping on a cot and sharing a hotel room with one of them at the convention •was arrested by the FBI, interviewed about his pedophelia, released, then arrested again

Isn't really all that weird. Like that could be the back story of just about any random person in the crowd of Charlie Kirk's assassination. Dime a dozen.

I feel like it just cannot be a coincidence

That's because it isn't a coincidence.

First off, I am in no way, shape or form defending the use of child pornography here ...

but I have to wonder if the authorities are telling the whole truth. I mean how many paedophiles would only have a few pics on their phone?

Never mind the 'authorities' (aka cops) saying he admitted to being aroused by the pics.

It all sounds more than a little sus to me. Time will tell if the charges stand or are dismissed.

I might normally agree, but we are also talking about a guy who just decided to fake a confession to murder on the scene. That was his first impulse. Whatever supposed justification he had for that (which also seems doubtful), it does not fill me with confidence that he is of sound mind and applying reason to his actions. And if he is lucid, it really seems like he's trying to go to jail. Could be trying to get medical care or something along those lines? If that were the case, that might explain both his fake confession and his small collection of CP in his phone.

When a bunch of files got leaked from UK intelligence agencies some years back, one of the programs mentioned was one that could essentially frame targets with CP material.

I'm not sure this administration is competent enough to do that, but I'd bet money they got embarrassed and are using some bathtime pic one if his kids sent him of his grandkids.

Then came the forced confession.

[–] Hector@lemmy.world 1 points 47 minutes ago

It would be easy for them to do. And everyone would take their word for it.

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 20 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

That's a high-risk "if the president does it, it's not illegal" gambit. Glad it didn't work out for him.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 16 points 21 hours ago

If he runs for president it could still work!

Just when you thought this timeline couldn't get any stupider.
