$88 million. 88 is the number you landed on? Couldn't make it a million in either direction so that it wasn't the Nazi number? I'm sure it's unintentional, but it's also a funny coincidence that the Nazis just happened to land on that number.
I remember getting mail that was along for a donation to a particular political side. One of the pre-chosen amounts was $88. Not exactly subtle.
I don't think ICE can be affected since they just got their big fugly bill and are now considered military. But let's hope there is a shutdown and it lasts for a long time.
It is more likely than not that the $88 million is a nazi dogwhistle.

I just don't understand why more congresspeople don't get this. I can already tell you that Schumer, Fetterman, Peters, and Slotkin, and many more are going to vote to pass the bill because of their usual boilerplate bullshit reasons.
A Vox podcast (Today Explained) speculated that that Dems won’t put the gov into shutdown because they are afraid that the GOP would retaliate by eliminating the filibuster, and then strong arming literally everything and anything they want without opposition.
I am, admittedly, not super up on how politics works at this kind of a political level but that’s what was discussed. Another person said they doubted the GOP would do it because they like it as an option if an opposing party has control, but it’s an option. However, Dems don’t want to gamble and want to be sure of the best outcome.

They already indicated that they want to pass it because they are scared if they don't the Republicans will remove the filibuster. Their plan is to hold out for a while then let it pass.
One day or another, the government is going to shut down ANYWAYS because of how unstable just everything is with them. It's bound to happen. So why not do it now instead of these power-play moves?
If there was a government shut down, that would at least include ICE, so they would stop too, right? Shut it the fuck down then.
LE is considered essential. Worst case scenario they'd be working for "free" and have to wait until everything opened back up to get their pay.
ICE isn't law enforcement, immigration is a civil matter... Although I know in Homeland security fema agents are funded differently until they get up to a certain point in the pay scale
That would still have an impact on recruitment. Shut this bitch down.
