Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, and toxicity are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !askusa@discuss.online
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

Even common-themed communities consist of a few dozen users here (bots included). Most probably you will be the only active user in your new community.
I would suggest participating in some more wide-themed community where your cassette-fetish wouldn't be an offtop. Plus you might find other people who are interested and this will help you to adequately assess the need of the new community.
I am fascinated by the idea. Why cassettes? At least vinyl is “lossless” on its first playback, but cassettes aren’t exactly high fidelity. Is it about the nostalgia? The vibe? The chonky, satisfying feel of the format?
Oh I do have a lot of records as well, but cassettes have their charm as well! It's easy to take them on the go (provided you have a walkman, which ALSO has its charm hahaha) and a lot cheaper than records. I like to collect my music on physical media, and cassettes make that very easy for me. A lot of the more "underground"/indie bands I listen to still release their music on tape as well. Plus, it's very satisfying, indeed. I didn't really grow up with cassettes (I'm 27), but nonetheless it has a certain feel to it.
Also lofi is fun and less serious than HiFi.
Yes, this! No annoying purists in the cassette community (they might be there, tho, but haven't encountered any yet so there's that)
As others have said, if it's a niche hobby lemmy is probably too small to see a lot of activity. Depending on what you're envisaging, maybe posting on bigger general communities like c/music is more likely to get responses and interest.
But if you are interested in starting a community, go for it! If it's small, there's not really going to be any issues with moderation (or that's been my experience at least). And if anything does come up there are places here to ask for advice and guidance. But the main issue is that you'll probably need to promote the community and do a lot of posting without much response until it grows. If that sounds hard, then just post to bigger, appropriate communities and get people interested, and maybe later a specific community had arise once it's needed.
