Into it.

Blue states secede and watch the red states cannibalize themselves.

They need us. We don't need them.

They will only learn if they are entirely destitute and have to come crawling back to us.

But we both know the violent right would go to war to prevent blue states from seceding. Like I said, they need us.

Sure, but we keep the house.

[–] JTskulk@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

Yeah you should divorce and leave the country. Byyyyyyyyyyyyye

I would also like a peaceful national divorce. Those of us who prefer intellectualism and advancement get one half, and the knuckledragging neanderthals whose only accomplishment in life is being born white get the other half

[–] themadcodger@kbin.earth 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And then our states can finally stop paying for their states to drag us back to the dark ages.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

That money can go towards funding migration for whoever wants to move to the other half

[–] GorGor@startrek.website 7 points 1 day ago (4 children)

A house divided cannot stand

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 4 points 10 hours ago

One half can stand just fine. It has the economy and progressive politics to do so.

The other half can rot and die. It only serves as a ball and chain.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

I wouldn't really call it standing right now

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe that would be the best way out of this for the rest of the world though

[–] GorGor@startrek.website 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

You really think so? I know 'america bad' and all, but the US did do a lot of good in the world as well. I think it is evidenced by all the harm the Trump administration is doing by illegally decimating congressional approved programs abroad.

Lets face it, if the US falls, the EU is going to be scared shitless, it will be largely ineffective in the global arena. That leaves china and Russia to swing their hammers on anything they want, and they want a lot. They need a lot.

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 4 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I think that the USA is lost already. Yeah it is big but only being able to trust it 4 years at a time, makes it a very unstable allied.

The world needs trust and stability and I think that the USA has shown that the world can't expect that of it. This is not about Trump. Its about the country as a whole, its population and the power that corporations and politicians have acquired

[–] GorGor@startrek.website 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

We had many years of continuity, just like any other normal nation who has free elections and policy shifts. We are in a new paradigm now. I agree the shift really started with Citizens United and the corporate grab for power (politicians are just owned by the corpos). That can be reversed but it is not going to be easy. Falling into sects just cedes power to the corpo masters.

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 2 points 11 hours ago

This paradigm has been building for a long time. Bush II was a quarter century ago now and he was already sending the US off to invade countries arbitrarily to seize their resources back then.

I don't think the US is going to pull back from this paradigm quickly. It's a generational process at best. So as an outsider who is under threat from the US I'm fine with quicker solutions to diminishing their power if that's what it comes to.

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Two separate united houses can stand, though.

Well, one of them can. Based on how their economies seem to do, the other one's going to be in trouble pretty quickly.

[–] GorGor@startrek.website 2 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

how quickly will BRICS snuggle up to the greater Texas petro state? What is their next move? Mutual defense pact? Plus with aligned states cutting the two coasts apart up through Idaho, there are really two seperate 'liberal' nations, not one. Oh, and California has the largest population of republicans outside of Texas so, not a lot of support. The US would be carved up and devoured in 2-3 years. It would no longer be a world player. That is already clearly the goal and it is working. I dont know why people want to accelerate this rather than attempt to reverse it.

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 6 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Well, I'm Canadian, and America has been threatening my country's sovereignty lately. I'd rather they just go back to being relatively sane again but if that's not in the cards then splitting America up into more manageable pieces is an adequate fallback I suppose.

Those pieces wouldn't be superpowers. They'd just be regular countries like everyone else. Is that so terrible?

[–] GorGor@startrek.website 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I think you would be surprised how bad the neighborhood would get with the US broken up into waring factions.

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 3 points 12 hours ago

I'm surprised how bad the neighborhood is with America being one big piece. I think chunking it up would make things better for us in the long run, especially considering that the relatively "saner" chunks would act as somewhat of a buffer between us and the total froot-loops down south.

As I said, there are other solutions I'd rather see happen. But if the US is going to stay as it is now then by all means break it up, that's better than having it be one giant hostile nation.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I frankly don’t think this shithole is going to be able to pull out of this idiocy

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago

Nah. Doubt it.

Not really sure how it's going to play out, but old America is done and gone.

Too many stupids to maintain a functional federal government across a large nation.

Balkanization seems likely. And at this point I don't really care and think it would probably be for the best, especially for blue states.

We're not going back to what we had.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Fine. If you’re a right wing nut move south.

[–] ScoffingLizard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Red state here. Are you all accepting adoption applications? I don't get in much trouble at school and clean my room every day.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

You’re in

[–] tal@lemmy.today 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (4 children)

Trump actually isn't very popular in the South today.

His strongest remaining support is in the two top coal-mining states

Wyoming and West Virginia

and Idaho. None of those are in the South.

The Economist's net approval map is interactive

you can click on it to get numbers

and I can't put that in this post, but here's a screenshot showing the colors:

Damn, Maryland is pissed

Also I really hate those square maps, they make the Midwest a jumbled mess.

[–] RFKJrsBrainworm@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 hours ago

Look at DC..... they're -71.6%

[–] JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 day ago

He would still win if there was an election today. Even though they don't like Trump, they'd still vote party line.

Great.

But the south has a fucking hard-on for absolutely fucking imbecilic, racist, xenophobic Republicans. So, you know, have fun with that.

I would be stoked if the actually productive and cosmopolitan states could shed the dead weight of the fucking confeds (and the handful of “frontier” states that think they could swing it without federal support - spoiler alert, they absolutely cannot), and then just make some sort of agricultural deal with Canada and Mexico to make up for the flyover states being the People’s Republic of Supply Side Jesus, and let them see how that pans out for a few decades. I’m fucking done giving a shit about the parts of the country that are so far up their own asshole that they don’t understand they’re voting against their own best interests.

[–] MumboJumbo@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Unfortunately though, if you toggle the switch to "2024 Voters", the map gets less red (Red indicating underwater in approval rating, grey being positive - for anyone that didn't play with the map.) Those haters need to vote!

[–] QBertReynolds@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I guess fuck everyone in Atlanta, Memphis, Austin, New Orleans, or any other city in the south, right?

[–] f1error@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yep. You called it. Good luck.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

It was just a starting negotiation. I’m open to suggestions

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Look we’re going to make sure there’s plenty of room for you here because we’re going to persuasively ask the Nazis to leave. I’m sure New Orleans and Atlanta will have strongholds in the cities but again there’s going to be plenty of room in Utah, Southern California, Montana and Idaho when we start encouraging the Nazis to go to their own country.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Balfour would've been proud.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why because the south would become a white christofacist ethnostate? Isn’t it better than us all having to live under that? To be clear that is what project 2025 is.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 2 points 1 day ago

https://sh.itjust.works/comment/21024165 adding large blue swaths of farm country.

[–] GorGor@startrek.website 4 points 1 day ago

Every. Damn. Time.

How is it news still?

[–] 0ndead 11 points 1 day ago

She doesn’t have enough toes for her opinions to matter

Red types move to florida now before all the good land is taken by the oce….. other people seeking freedom!

I mean, it would be an interesting experiment I guess. I suspect it would effectively segregate the states by ideology and race. I assume most non-old-white-christians would prefer to live in blue states.

But one glaring question is how would we divide up existing federal resources? Like the military, bank, etc.
