Dude's only 23; will probably be the first guy to get an official sub-2er

*Kiptum crossed the finish line at the Chicago Marathon with an unofficial time of 2 hours and 35 seconds. If confirmed, Kiptum will have beaten two-time Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge's record, set at the 2022 Berlin Marathon, by 34 seconds. *

Obviously, I need to change my name to Kip Something!

Pretty cool.

Pretty sure in Kenya “Kip” translates to something like “son of”. So Kipchogi is “son of Chogi” and Kiptum is “son of Tum”.

Hell yeah, finally! Kiptum has been on the radar for that WR for a while now, glad he finally did it! :D

Within spitting distance of 2 hours. Would be interesting to see if it's broken in the next couple of years.

Everything points towards it imo. Kiptum is only 23 and it wasnt planned as a sub 2 run with good pacers and all. And it didnt seem like a crazy fluke either.

If it weren't for the Olympic games in Paris I might have said that it would be likely to even happen next year. But with them being in July/August there might not be the right timing for a good attempt.

Good for Kiptum. What a time.
