Hello fellow Cyanide and Happiness fans!
Cyanide & Happiness (C&H) is a webcomic created by Rob DenBleyker, Kris Wilson, Dave McElfatrick and Matt Melvin. The comic has been running since 2005 and is published on the website explosm.net along with animated shorts in the same style. Matt Melvin left C&H in 2014, and several other people have contributed to the comic and to the animated shorts

About this community and how I post the comics⦠Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips. Of course these days you can read your favorite comics online instead of a newspaper, but I love the nostalgia of reading the daily comics. Anyway, one of my favorite current comics is Cyanide and Happiness and I will be posting the daily release from their website (https://explosm.net/) and a an extra or two randoms.

The question being: Is property inherently more valuable than a human life?
The question is are you justified to use deadly force, if somebody threatens you with a deadly weapon.
I think that in most jurisdictions, it wouldn't be legal to take someone's gun and then shoot them with it. Once they'd been disarmed, they may no longer pose a threat. However, if you pulled out your own gun and shot them, this would be self defense, as they were still a threat when you attacked.
Morally, I think many religions claim they're objective and say that killing is wrong. However, they often carve out exceptions.
My own subjective morality in this case would agree that this is immoral, as the robber has been disarmed. However, its impossible to be sure they're really no longer a threat.
However however however.
No, nothing has any inherent value, we are the ones who assign value.
That's an easy one.
But it really does highlight the moral in question better when it's a small amount.

I think the joke is that he risked his life for 6 bucks. Not that poor people deserve to die ...
I think "the joke" is that people in the US will use their gun for "self-defence", even if all they have to defend is 6 bucks.
Sort of like that kid, that I don't remember the name of, who drove miles with an assault rifle to "defend" himself.

And the subtext to that is βLife is cheapβ to some people.
Guess people have an inalienable right to assault me because I'm poor. I'll try to keep that in mind going forward π
It's the "I'm a hero!" at the end of the comic that sets the tone for what this is about.
By celebrating his act, self defense guy is showing that he specifically enjoyed it enough to celebrate his act afterwards. It's the difference between killing someone in self defense and killing someone in self defense then teabagging the corpse. Only one of these situations demonstrates a completely lack of empathy.
So, to address your comment directly, this isn't a comment about self defense and all its myriad variations. It's about the celebration of loss of life that happens whenever these situations come up.
