I couldn't find any more information. It's one side of a stereographic photo from an unidentified photographer.
Would you mind sharing where you located it, if you have that information? My curiosity is piqued enough to do some digging on my day off.
Looks like they are playing wax cylinders.
~~Schoolchildren listening to a recording on a gramophone, China, East Asia. Date: 1922.~~
So I'm lead to believe that is not accurate.
This photo is currently housed in the Walthers Collection, there (NSFW images on link) they attribute it as:
Unidentified photographer, [Stereoviews], ca. 1910–20
I'm going to put more stock in a world renowned gallery and experts research over a reverse Google image search.
No that's literally what they are doing. But on an ediphone not a gramophone. That upright cylinder is a wax tube storage box, I have several. The horizonal cylinder is literally on an ediphone.

Gotcha. Agreed. ~~Attempted to strikeout...~~
I'm working on stereography lens adapters that can be used on SLR cameras and phones. I got one of my prototypes on eBay right now.
Anyway, the resolution on the photo is great! Could you post both sides?
