Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

If you've made it your job to spew hateful, divisive shit, then I feel like this is a occupational hazard. Get a real job.

"Political Commentator" being anyone with a fucking opinion? Why treat this guy like he was special?

[–] quatschkopf43@feddit.org 21 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Wasn't there a school shooting in Colorado on the same day? But wait, these deaths are a price worth paying, right Charlie?

[–] mitch@piefed.mitch.science 12 points 5 months ago

there was. but also, I mean Kirk getting shot was a school shooting in itself. he was shot on a college campus while students were there.

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 months ago

He ran an influential Republican media company.

If you make a career of heinously shitposting, you shouldn’t be shocked when at some point someone shitposts back with a bullet.

Honestly, the timing was jaw-dropping. He finishes a racist dog whistle sentence about gun violence, and less than a second later got his carotid artery ventilated. Just… goddamn.

[–] EightBitBlood@lemmy.world 16 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Don't forget he was sitting in a tent surrounded by posters promoting his tour called "Prove me Wrong."

I mean. He did lose the gun debate the hard way.

Don't do it MAGA! They're secret liberals trying to keep your audience count low so you look unpopular! Go to the biggest, hardest to cover areas you can find! Don't let them win! Do it without security to show how alpha you are!

[–] tidderuuf@lemmy.world 12 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Thank you Lord and Jesus, no one asked for them to do that shit out in public spaces so finally we can have a small return to normality.

[–] MantisToboggon@lazysoci.al 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

weren't there like 3000 people? someone's asking them to do that shit.

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 23 points 5 months ago

When I was in school conservative events were always packed but only because they gave out tons of free food and other random crap broke college kids needed because they had the infinite money cheat code turned on

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 10 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Political commentators should be fine

Racist misogynistic Nazi worshippers who say they're fine with dead kids because he likes guns, yeah, those should stay inside from now on

[–] DioramaOfShit@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

TIL guns don't work inside.

[–] CaptainBlinky@lemmy.myserv.one 8 points 5 months ago

Hateful, divisive people who preach hate and divisiveness should probably avoid speaking in public. For everyone's safety.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago

Or maybe they should just stop being hateful assholes

[–] desmosthenes@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

political commentators should stick to commenting and not preaching division, biggotry and hate

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 5 points 5 months ago

And they should avoid indoor closed events, and streams, closed circuit TV, recordings digital or analog.

Unless it's comedy or sarcasm, we should probably just dispense with the propaganda and do real news and fact-checking.

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Sitting state representatives and their families were shot and killed in their homes by someone impersonating a police officer...

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

Charlie Kirk was political the same way the Ku Klux Klan is political.

[–] DeathsEmbrace@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

Why are we allowing this to hijack the emotional narrative?

[–] krunklom@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 months ago

Fake news. It's a conspiracy to stop your message from getting out. They should go outside way, way more, preferably in hilly terrain or in courtyards surrounded by tell buildings.

[–] kriz@slrpnk.net 3 points 5 months ago

Wow galaxy brain expert!

[–] venusaur@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

[–] crystalmerchant@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago
