I didn’t watch TOS, did Vulcans smile there? I don’t really recall them smiling in any other series. Maybe tuvok smiled in that one episode where he became stupid.

Not sure what episode the OP image is from because it’s been a long time since I did a rewatch, but I think maybe in the first few episodes of season 1 they might have had Spock smiling more when they were still figuring everything out. I think he also smiled when he got sex pollened on some planet in a later season.
