"So we need a bigger distraction. Like Horst Wessel meets Reichstag fire." I wonder if someday we'll find out Trump ordered it.

Or maybe it's just chickens coming home to roost.

Or most likely of all, far-right faction fighting.

Thanks to the "good guy with a gun" who protected the world from this guy.

There's so many layers of irony to this event. You can't make this shit up.

A man, who made a career downplaying gun violence and advocating against empathy for its victims, was shot while giving a talk about his favorite topic under a tent that said "Prove me wrong", on a college campus in a state that just lifted its ban on weapons on college campuses. His own quotes can be endlessly used to shut down any outrage at his ironic demise.

Charlie Kirk's final moments were spent being definitively and completely proven wrong.

If this wasn't going to used as an excuse to ban Trans people from owning firearms and for further violence against the opposition, it would be hilarious.

In hindsight the sign should have said "what are you going to do, shoot me?"

A moment of silence on the floor of the US House of Representatives over Charlie Kirk’s killing has turned into a shouting match between Republicans and Democrats.

The commotion began when Republican representative Lauren Boebert rose after the moment of prayer to ask that the House also say a prayer for Kirk, according to multiple lawmakers who were on the floor during the incident, Axios reports.

Democrats then shouted “what about the kids in Colorado”, referring to a school shooting in Colorado that also occurred on Wednesday afternoon. Boebert responded that she was about to reference that tragedy before she was interrupted, the report continues.

Republican representative Anna Paulina Luna, who worked as Kirk’s director of Hispanic engagement at Turning Point USA, then stood up and yelled at Democrats: “You caused this!”

That prompted a raucous Democratic response, with Democratic representative Jahana Hayes, a leader on the gun violence prevention task force, shouting: “Pass some gun laws!”

Footage of the commotion from C-Span can be seen here on Instagram.

after the moment of prayer

They have a moment of prayer at a government meeting ? Did I misunderstood something?

You miss the separation of church and state.

[–] douglasg14b@lemmy.world 13 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

A fucking prayer on the floor?

Wtf

Jahana Hayes, a leader on the gun violence prevention task force, shouting: “Pass some gun laws!”

Context and all, but, really? You want a majority Republican government body, inhabited by neofascist nazi-in-all-but-self-declaration death-cultist hyper-authoritarians . . .to. . . pass. gun. laws‽

You want those people...who turned the second amendment into a fetish subculture, pardon murderers loyal to the party, and punish activists and immigrants with zero due process by throwing them into vans and imprisoning them in death camps...

...to decide who is allowed to defend themselves? Once again the DNC on average has proven to be ridiculously out of touch.

Times have changed, and guns aren't just some debate point you can kick back and forth for political points anymore. The threat of armed opposition very well might be required to safeguard future life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, especially if this party can't get their shit together. FAST.

Want to prevent gun violence? Stop jackboot stomping Americans by allowing their governments, their insurance, their bosses, their cops, their landlords, and corporations, to push them to the brink of such despair and desperation that murder starts to sound like the only way to be heard and respected.

But such policies would piss off your biggest donors, wouldn't it?

I just want to point out some things since everyone is assuming it was a leftist shooter:

  1. No one knows who the shooter actually is.
  2. Most leftist reactions I've seen to Kirk have been to laugh at his stupidity, not get murderously angry at him.
  3. No political message has appeared yet, like the one Luigi put on the bullets he used. Which if you're a leftist shooter, come on you gotta at least do that homage.
  4. The shooter killed him with one shot from a distance and got out without being caught.
  5. I've never met a leftist who knows how to shoot a gun, nevermind one with that level of skill. If it was a leftist, I'm surprised they couldn't catch them by now by simply arresting the one leftist who knows how to shoot at long distance.

Whats hilarious is that they say it was “radical left” people every time, and yet ultimately it always trickles out later that the person who did it was either politically conservative, or just generally a nut. To my knowledge no one has actually ever shot anyone because they held progressive or liberal beliefs.

The guy who “shot” Trump, accused liberal but verified conservative. The guy who hid at Trumps golf course trying to do the same? Verified conservative. The trans highschool shooter from a couple weeks ago? Accused liberal, but was actually just a straight up nazi glorifier. Like id give it better odds that the person who shot Kirk was a conservative who was mad about the Epstein files, just like the kid who tried to assassinate Trump was. Id say its also not far fetched that Kirk was a sacrificial lamb executed by his own party in order to secure the young conservative vote by generating a martyr. Its at least way more likely than someone with progressive and humanistic beliefs shooting him, considering assassinations and humanism dont exactly go hand in hand. Not to mention its suspicious as fuck that he was shot from a crowd and they somehow didnt catch the shooter…

[–] SirActionSack@aussie.zone 5 points 3 hours ago

AFAIK evidence linking Luigi to the murder of the health insurance parasite is pretty thin.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 10 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

You know who has lots of people who can shoot well at long distances?

The government.

This is a very stupid list, speaking as a leftist.

[–] arc99@lemmy.world 9 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

Being realistic the person shooting probably did disagree with his politics but until the shooter is caught we have no idea what the motives were. And there are other credible possibilities - a political / financial / personal rival, an opportunist / fantasist, a hit, or even a false flag. For all anyone knows he fucked the wrong dude's wife. When the perp is caught we'll find out.

[–] StarvingMartist@sh.itjust.works 18 points 5 hours ago

Okay, all reasonable but number 5, that's dumb, humans pick their hobbies more or less at random. Fuck it could be a teenage Mormon missionary with a gun fetish for all we know.

All I'm saying is if my sweet old southern grandma didnt pull me aside one day and show me her fucking sword collection I would be a different man

Considering some of his comments over the years, I'm torn whether this is ironic, appropriate, or hilarious.

I just can't decide.

Trump blames harsh language for Kirk's death

Trump posted a video that appeared to be filmed in the Oval Office Wednesday evening on Truth Social, blaming Kirk's death on harsh political rhetoric.

He said "violence and murder are the tragic consequence of demonizing those with whom you disagree."

He added: "For years, those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the world's worst mass murderers and criminals. This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism that we're seeing in our country today, and it must stop right now."

U.S. terror experts have warned of rising threats from so-called stochastic terrorism, in which sometimes unstable individuals are inspired to violence by hate speech and scenarios they see online and hear echoed by public figures.

Whaaaaattt??? I am so totally shocked to hear this accusation coming from Trump.

After the FBI has already apparently arrested and released 2 suspects... That's another great thing about firing every FBI agent that was qualified to do their job in retaliation for Jan 6th. You never quite know what's incompetence vs conspiracy these days.

The baseball shooter was a berniecrat.

There is a fundamental difference between rightwing violence targeting individuals and leftwing violence targeting systems.

He didn't believe in empathy, so I'm going to honour him by not having empathy for him. He was in a position of authority and power and advocated for gun violence over the lives of kids, saying the deaths in school shootings are "worth it". I can only sympathise for his poor children though. Jesus!!

I don't live in America but I heard 3 kids are currently in critical condition after a school/mass shooting. It's weird how this got way more media coverage
