Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Clarence Thomas salivating at another motorcoach "gratuity."

Yes. Uncle Thomas wants a new cabin.

This the type of shit that makes me believe in simulation theory. The one uncle tom acting motherfucker on the bench is actually named tom.

Yeah, Nominative Determinism is sus at best.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

No time to explain, Morty! Just run real fast and do math in your head.

Honestly, if we had known that all you need to do to bribe an SC justice was to give them a fucking RV and consistently refer to it as a “gratuity”, we could have gotten in front of a whole fucking lot of the problems we’re facing now

What is interesting, if unsuccessful Trump has to pay back all those tariffs. These were paid for by companies and passed on to consumers. Guess who is getting the refunds?

What an amazing way to transfer more wealth to companies.

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 10 points 7 months ago (1 children)

FWIW, it hit small lifestyle businesses like mine too, and we didn’t raise our prices to compensate. But I know we’re probably the outlier there.

Imagine most business owners were like you, community over profits.

[–] Steve@startrek.website 1 points 7 months ago

The rent still has to be paid, etc

[–] teft@piefed.social 4 points 7 months ago

What’s going to be really fun is the giant hole the lack of tariff income blows in his already shitty budget. He was counting on that cash to offset his tax cuts for the rich. Get ready for some turbo inflation.

[–] cannon_annon88@lemmy.today 29 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Of course he is. It feels like the economy is already fucked either way.

[–] Pechente@feddit.org 27 points 7 months ago (1 children)

It definitely is. A lot of countries try to reduce their dependence on the US. Even if the current administration is no longer in office, the damage will be done and a lot of it will be permanent.

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 13 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Much of our value was our stability and reliability. Every previous administration was aware of this.

The current administration just wants to get personally rich. It's such a short-sighted and stupid goal for a country's leadership.

[–] LoafedBurrito@lemmy.world 20 points 7 months ago (1 children)

None of this matters anymore. He has caused so much chaos and damage, it's going to take months or years to recover from this.

His tariffs have always been illegal and honestly, no company should have paid them. My company is losing thousands every shipment because of these random and stupid tariffs, i can only imagine the hundreds of thousands other companies are paying in tariff's alone.

The supreme court is owned by the GOP, so they will side with him and the country will continue to freefall into a massive depression.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 14 points 7 months ago (1 children)

it’s going to take months or years to recover from this.

Try a couple generations. If we're lucky.

[–] comrade_twisty@feddit.org 11 points 7 months ago (2 children)

The dollar might never recover, if you really wanna see what Trump has caused check how the dollar value against other major currencies has declined in the past 4 months.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 8 points 7 months ago

It will never recover. As countries stop using the dollar to trade it all comes back and creates hyperinflation. And there's no reason to believe that they would go back to the dollar for any reason. This shit is permanent.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

Just switch to the Canadian dollar, you won't even hav to change the name of your currency.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 17 points 7 months ago

SCOTUS responds by putting on knee pads and sucking Trump's micro pedo penis.

[–] Vanilla_PuddinFudge 11 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Pageantry. This is just another method of stalling them for another round of pump and dumps.

[–] DoucheBagMcSwag@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 7 months ago

Since the appeals are letting the terrifs in place,..we will know how they will rule on how fast they take it

Slow walk: "they're going rule in his favor."

Instant emergency pickup: "they may potentially strike them down."

Think about it, there's no downside for letting this sit here since the tariffs are continuing

[–] dugmeup@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago

Watch as the ruling is going to come down to saying Trump is allowed unless Congress votes to block either the declaration of emergency or the actual EO.

The end goal here is to centralise power - that is the GOP SCOTUS goal. There is no way Roberts doesn't justify this action by Trump.

They are enablers - Roe v Wade was just a test of what the US people would accept and to gauge their reaction
