I for one welcome our Aldi overlords
They are popping up like crazy here. I'm all for it. I can get most of what I need at far lower prices than Kroger/Walmart and then just pick up the remainder at one of those two since we don't have other options here.
In the comments, a bunch of grump curmudgeons who don't like their undue loyalty to overpriced stores being challenged.

Aldi has opened a few stores in Texas but is really going to struggle to compete with HEB. If all I had was Kroger or Safeway though, I'd take Aldi any day
Different kind of store though. Aldi for the quick grocery reup. HEB is for the big monthly stock up.
HEB's for quick trips or big trips, Costco is for big monthly stock ups.

The aldi division is a more fun way to divide germany than all the other: States, religiouse, geographic, rural/urban, culture, weiรwurst-equator, how-ever-you-call-the-yeast-dough-backing-with-filling and so on
You know I often play with the idea of opening a lot of buissness in the US with european customs, then a healthcare insurance for the employees and other neccessitys all like we have them in europe, so the others either get out competed from the market because this will have endless suply of people wanting to work for these companys, or it sets the new industy Standard
They are way popular around me nowadays. The way to go is pick up loss leaders from other places and then get what you want that is available at aldi and if its not available then get that from those other places to.
Fine with me. Canโt be worse than Kroger.
I like Aldi for staples like old-fashioned oats, cooking oil, and laundry detergent. But I can't do all my shopping there because their meat is awful and their produce is very hit-or-miss. Typically I buy what I can at Aldi and get the rest at Giant, and if I'm getting fish, I go to Wegmans.
I hope they don't krispy kreme themselves.

And products that couldn't compete with better mom and pop and small chain products. They were here at one time. Now they are not. A true win for the customer.
I thought Trader Joe's was Aldi? (Edit: I remembered correctly)
Also, don't let yourself be deceived by the low prices, they are made on the backs of mistreated employees (making the Albrecht family billionaires and some of the richest people in Germany and the world).
Edit2: ah. Not that it makes any difference to non-Germans, but Aldi Nord has Trader Joe's, this is Aldi Sรผd.
Edit3: do buy your food there if you can't afford anything else, I'm not telling you to starve. Just to be aware.
I have been truly deceived then because I can buy food there without worrying I may not be able to also afford gas and almost all the employees I have interacted with seem OK working there.
Just out of curiosity, where do you get your food ensuring the employees are not mistreated?
Also, I can imagine Aldi's practices being about on par with what US Americans are used to, sadly.
I did not say don't shop there if you can't afford anything else. What I'm saying is don't think of them as the good guys. I absolutely get that some (many) people are in that situation.
I get my groceries at a local German chain that I at least haven't heard anything egregious about in terms of employee treatment.
I have to eat, man. Itโs literally double the price for food everywhere else. Iโm not exaggerating, on average anything you find at any other grocery store will be twice the price as the equivalent at Aldi. Iโm not in a food desert and Iโm not shopping at high end stores, grocery stores just started putting the squeeze on during COVID and havenโt stopped.
Theyโre also the only store Iโve ever seen that will let cashiers sit instead of forcing them to stand for 8 hours. By American standards those are good jobs.

True. That's not the only metric for the quality of treatment of employees.

Having lived in Aldi Sรผd territory for half a year now, I can't say I'm impressed with how it was hyped up vs. Aldi Nord. All the Trader Joe's stuff is missing.
And Aldi Nord has the better apparel, which you sadly can only get in store (as far as I have seen).
I dont shop in Aldi. But Aldi Nord has a more industrial/corperate vibe and Aldi Sรผd just is Lidl vibes but in worse.
Here in almost Switzerland both Aldis are better than Lidl.
