Downloaded this for the first time, it’s mostly great!

A few quality of life things I’d like to see before I can switch over permanently:

  • Biggest one for me: I can’t label addresses and later search for them. For instance, I label my dad’s apartment as “dad’s house” in google maps and then all I need to do is search “dad” and it’s the first suggestion. CoMaps should include saved item notes in the search at high priority.
  • Routing options for bikes/walking should include “avoid hills” and “bike safe routes preferred”.
  • Public transit routing is severely limited. Suggests a single route, no routing options. Probably the most useless option, I can’t ever see using it.
  • While I understand traffic necessitates an internet connection and probably another data provider, I do miss it here.
  • No idea what the last routing tab is for (the one with the graph/node icon). Is it just the shortest path? How is it different from walking directions?
  • Multi-destination route planning would be nice to have too.

The best place for requests would be the codeberg repository issues, as that is monitored by contributors, can be linked to PRs and you can follow any progress on a request

The last option is line of sight distance, I think

Thanks for an update! How long usually before it appears in F-Droid?

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 15 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

The last 3 releases showed up in F-Droid 8, 5 and 5 days after release. So something like that probably.

I got it last night via Obtainium

Sometimes I think obtainium are the Arch of Android app stores

Kind of is!

Is wireless carplay still not available? I’m seeing comaps as an option wired, but not wireless.

Excited for CarPlay, but unfortunately after the app update I’m not seeing CoMaps available as a CarPlay icon one of my cars, but it does show up on my other car. This is on iOS by going to General > CarPlay > (car) > Home Screen Icons. I have 26 icons available on one car and 27 on the other, with CoMaps being the only difference. Any reason availability would be limited by car brand?

Edit: This was solved by a phone restart. Weird.

It doesn't show up for me in android auto. I've never tried to use AA before this week, so I'm not sure how it should look. Not all of my media apps or mapping apps are present in the menu on the car. Is that normal?

[–] Railcar8095@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I think there's a setting on your phone to allow non verified apps on android auto.

I remember having to do that for a rental car, but hopefully with this you can find more info

OHO!

A16 on my Pixel has the settings for which apps to show under:

Settings > Android Auto > Customize Launcher

I'll have to try it and see if it worked.

sorry, but if i have to download every single map to be able to search for anything, but it can't even find a street thats two blocks away from me i'm not gonna use this

[–] cantences@anonsys.net 7 points 2 weeks ago

Then the road is probably not yet included in the OpenStreetMap data.

[–] Zwiebel@feddit.org 6 points 2 weeks ago

Works just fine for me. Is the street in question on the map at all?

[–] Ulrich@feddit.org 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You don't need to download them.

If you can't find it, it's probably not on OpenStreetMaps. But the beauty there is that you can add it, and make it better for everyone!

[–] Scolding7300@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

There's an open issue though regarding searching in areas that haven't been downloaded, forgot which one it is

[–] Dust0741@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Any way to use carplay without the Google play store?

[–] Ulrich@feddit.org 6 points 2 weeks ago

Theres no way to use it with Google Play Store. Because it's a feature of iOS.

[–] cantences@anonsys.net 3 points 2 weeks ago

@Dust0741
Carplay is for iPhone

GrapheneOS (Android) has has Android Auto as an optional install with their sandboxed Google Play services
