General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

What a coincidence! Another policy that doesn't really seem to tackle the problem they say it does but will definitely help them surveil the whole population and crack down on protesters.

I only skim read the article but it doesn’t seem to explain how a new ID card will actually stop people working illegally? Surely the companies hiring illegal workers already don’t go through the proper channels (cash in hand for example), so how will this stop that?

It seems to me actually prosecuting these companies will do much more than some IDs?

Yeah, that’s it. It’s already a legal requirement for employers to check eligibility for work. But the dodgy ones know they can get away with not bothering, because there is so little enforcement of the laws we have.

Claiming ID cards will do anything to reduce migration is nothing more than an excuse to further expand the surveillance state.

Oh, fuck off with your fucking ID cards again.

If you can work the phrase "shove them up your fucking arse" in there, I'm in 100% agreement.

More surveillance!
More money funnelled to corporations!
More attacks on the most vulnerable!

Crazy idea.... Open up the safe and legal routes that the Tories closed?
