Honestly there are aspects about this that I like. In the vein of bomb defusal robots being obviously good. But with, you know, current politics and our chronic issues, it just feels sinister.

next year

armed drone hacked by deranged lunatic kills 50 kids and 10 teachers

[–] bier@feddit.nl 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Or, armed drone kills kid holding a banana as a gun

Child Holding Gun Shaped Object Struck By Bullets Fired From Police Drone

[–] CheeseNoodle@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Idk fired is still too much culpability, how about 'Struck by bullets in incident involving police drone'

[–] ebolapie@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah you're right, it's always an "incident involving XYZ"

[–] iAvicenna@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

how about "struck by bullets leaving the gun barrel"?

I'm not surprised. The only thing we're good at in this country is making weapons.

[–] TheLowestStone@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

That's a bald faced lie. We're also good at producing food with a lot of calories and no nutritional value.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago

Challenge any nation in the world to match our advances in deep frying technology. We invented ways of deep frying foods no one else could have ever imagined.

and choosing presidents with no real value.

That's not fair, trump has a lot of value to Putin

and Winnie the Ping!

This is such a tricky subject.
You could go with a more strict gun regulations. Coupled with more help for vulnerable people. And free mental healthcare.
Or.
MUTHERFUDGING DRONES, bitches.

It's such a tricky subject. So tricky.

This isn't tik tok you can say Motherfucking.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 44 points 2 days ago (2 children)

In fact I'd prefer if people just used the actual cuss words. Self-censoring is such a bullshit. Social media is a plague on our species.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I need more things to have a block censorship option. Like streaming music services often have a ‘block explicit’ option. I want a ‘block censored’ option.

Yeah so we tried nothing and nothing worked!

Then we tried arming the teachers but they accidentally shot themselves and the students!

So now we're trying armed drones with AI doing the triggering because there just ain't any other solution to this problem!

I mean the entire world has this problem, every day we read about multiple countries facing multiple school shootings per day, every single day, and nobody found any solution ever!

So AI killer drones are the only way to move education forward, there is no other solution available Right?

I guess good since cops would rather all the children be shot than face a threat.

The only thing that can stop a bad guy with a drone is a good guy with a drone.

[–] jonesey71@lemmus.org 14 points 1 day ago

My gut says when you have to say you are "the good guy" you are in fact "the bad guy."

Article says there's a pepper ball launcher and a glass hammer, so this thing is mainly for surveillance and mild distractions, which is much better than I was prepared to read.

"Currently, an officer's job is to run toward gunfire, alone, with no support or intel—basically a standoff. With our drones, they're not alone; they know what the suspect looks like, what they're doing, and we take point around every corner.

"We usually find the shooter before they do and keep them occupied. Every officer who's seen this live has said they want it."

If this actually encourages them to do their jobs, great. If this is just a kickback to private industry and further militarizing schools while police still sit cowering, than I know where they can dock those drones...

"Currently, an officer's job is to run toward gunfire, alone, with no support or Intel"

That's a lie, they don't run toward gunfire at all. And they'll wait until they have at least three departments of officers before doing anything.

If they want to break glass as a distraction they can do that already, they don't need a drone. And their plan to break glass will startle an already on edge and unstable shooter, instead of using tactics to de-esecalate the situation. Also, isn't this what swat is for? They have no qualms about flashbanging babies in cribs but when it comes to an actual situation all of a sudden they need drones so no cops are in any iota of danger.

"It's a bit like that movie The Matrix, where the agent can jump into the nearest person and immediately be good to go. We're a little bit like that—but we're the good guys,"
