Ok, yes, you are correct...but how were they to know it was a bad idea before doing it?
Just because it is stunningly obvious to any person who isn't corrupt, or an idiot, that doesn't mean they were/are getting paid shit tons of cash from all their corruption and data mining!!
It's a bit like voting in the document stealing, child rapist, traitorous Russian asset Donvict tRUMP (twice). Most sane people will say it's a bad look.
However it could be pointed out that voting Reagan in (twice) was also a bad idea. Which it was.
Just because the us population keeps on making the same mistake again, and again, and aaaa-fucking-gain does that mean they need to wake the fuck up and stop being gullible fools? Who knows. It's a tricky one.
I’ve worked for open source companies for a while now and a lot of our business was from European organizations for exactly this reason.
Who's the most fleshed out replacement for something like GCP / AWS in your opinion?

There is none that is on par, but the closest ones I know are stackit, ionos, ovh and hetzner. German and French.
You know what's less risky than using corporate systems at all? FOSS
Are there any good FOSS email providers? Like...I don't want to deal with setting up my own email service, that sounds like a nightmare. I used Proton for a bit and even that got me spam filtered out of a lot of important communications.
What's a "FOSS email provider"?
An email provider that uses FOSS products under the hood but operates as a normal for-profit company?

Fair enough, I use webhosting with Mythic Beasts for my domain and I just decided to use their email hosting too for my domain, it's way too hard for a small player to set up their own email and be viewed as trustworthy, with all the things the big companies do - I feel you for that one.

Average America voted in a majority for the House and Senate, as well as a psycho billionaire as president, and a majority of the state legislatures and governors. Average America can have they day they fucking voted for.

As much as it will probably hurt, it’s in everyone’s best interest to wean themselves off of the American tech sector. Microsoft in particular has its greedy fingers in so many western governments and really needs to be cut off.

The EU needs a publicly funded development effort to provide FOSS solutions for business admin and the public services sector. The GDPR helped, but it's still way too much US-based software at the foundation of all that.
American Tech is literally encouraging the authoritarian dystopia that's taking hold in the states. They deserve to be excised.
The switch won't be instant but we are moving into that direction. When contracts run out with US tech firms they won't be renewed and alternatives will be sought out. Slowly but surely.
As the alternatives start to gain market share, their products will become more feature rich. This will lower the barrier for adoption and increase the rate of transition.
I work with big corporate in both europe and us and it has always been true in some form or another as certification is very serious at enterprise level. There's a huge boom for European software right now! Though, EU is completely fumbling the opportunity due to really poor support for small companies. Big corporations can afford to migrate and recertify etc but if you're a small european company you're totally fucked like always. European software is mostly captured by the big moat and this will not help.

Same in my mostly government-focused industry
Hopefully it's not about Trump but the understanding that relying on proprietary software might sound nice in a short term but certainly will be devastating in the long(or short sometimes) term.
anything that requires ongoing updates, subscription, or storage is going to be a risk. we can't even support data centers and also the cities where they build them without rolling blackouts and water shortages. but they're prioritising the data centers anyway because they this Ai is going to pay off whatever damage the blackouts cause
