Washington (AFP) – The entire population of Gaza would be relocated and the United States would take control of the Palestinian territory under a plan being considered by the Trump administration, the Washington Post reported Sunday.

The enclave reduced to rubble in Israel's war prompted by the Hamas attack of 2023 would be transformed into a trusteeship administered by the United States for at least 10 years, the newspaper said.

Another goal of the plan modeled on President Donald Trump's stated vision of making it the "Riviera of the Middle East" is to transform Gaza -- land which the Palestinians want to be part of a future state -- into a tourism resort and high tech hub, said the Post, which viewed a 38-page prospectus outlining the initiative.

It calls for at least temporary relocation of all of Gaza's population of two million, either through "voluntary" departures to another country or into restricted, secured zones inside the enclave during reconstruction, the newspaper said.

Gaza residents who own land would be given a digital token by the trust in exchange for the right to develop their property.

Recipients can use this token to start a new life somewhere else or eventually redeem it for an apartment in one of six to eight new "AI-powered, smart cities" to be built in Gaza, according to the plan.

The Post quoted people familiar with the trust's planning and with administration deliberations over postwar Gaza.

The State Department did not immediately reply to an AFP request for comment.

Trump stunned the world earlier this year when he suggested the United States should take control of the Gaza Strip, clear out all its people and build seaside real estate.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the proposal, which was heavily criticized by many European and Arab states.

Trump chaired a meeting last week on postwar plans for Gaza but the White House did not release a read-out afterward or announce any decisions.

The body that would administer Gaza under the plan now being considered would be called the Gaza Reconstitution, Economic Acceleration and Transformation Trust, or GREAT Trust, said the Post.

The Post said the proposal was developed by some of the same Israelis who created the US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation distributing food inside the enclave amid much criticism from aid groups and the United Nations.

On July 22, the UN rights office said Israeli forces had killed more than 1,000 Palestinians trying to get food aid in Gaza since the GHF started operations, nearly three-quarters of them in the vicinity of GHF sites.

Good thing "Genocide Joe" isn't in charge any more, imagine how much worse that would have been!

Be careful, all those non-voters might come and attack you

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That would require them to take some kind of action.

Well, talk is cheap, and they sure love to babble. ;)

Good thing their opinion doesn't matter

Until someone needs to be blamed for the dems losing - then they're crucial.

Maybe one or 2% of the absolute stupidest of those people were real. The rest of them were all trolls and plants trying to stoke division and anger. The best thing you can possibly do is stop talking about them, and when they show up in these chats, just completely ignore them. Or respond with completely irrelevant memes.

Even the one or 2% that were real were never going to join your side, and they won't now. They're incapable of understanding shame, responsibility, or the consequences of their actions. There's no point in continuing to be salty about them any more than being angry about animals doing what they do.

They don't take the view that they do out of any considered principle, it's simply to be contrary to what they're being told is the right decision. It's about them feeling smarter than everyone else. It's their nature.

A 2% swing in the votes would have changed the election outcome.

The Biden admin was the first to openly propose relocating the population of Gaza. They got the ball rolling on ethnic cleansing. Trump just made it trashy as well as cruel.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says the Biden administration does not support proposals to mass-relocate Palestinians outside of Gaza as Israel broadens its military campaign against Hamas in the Strip.

The Biden admin was speaking out of both sides of its mouth.

https://mondoweiss.net/2023/10/plan-to-force-palestinians-to-sinai-yet-another-biden-disaster/

https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/israel-palestine-war-white-house-accused-endorsing-displacement

Again, like I said, they proposed it in a way that was much less trashy than the Trump administration. The Biden admin didn't propose forcibly relocating the Gaza population. Rather, they pressured Egypt to open up "humanitarian corridors" to accept large numbers of Gazan refugees. The plan was that Israel would drive the population of Gaza into the Sinai, into "temporary" refugee areas. Then they would inevitably close the border behind them and prevent them from returning. Israel has used this exact MO numerous times in the past.

The main difference between them is that Trump practices vice signalling while Biden practiced virtue signalling. Trump revels in being performatively cruel, while Biden portrayed his ethic cleansing plan as a humanitarian mission.

Good thing their policy towards the subject was so morally and logically consistent then.

“But we also want to make sure that they’re out of harm’s way and that they’re getting the assistance they need,” Blinken says.

-Your own link. The only thing Trump added to this is the trashy tech bro stuff.

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Exactly. Behind the scenes they were pressuring ~~Israel~~ Egypt to open up "temporary" refugee camps in the Sinai to accept large numbers of Gazans. Israel would inevitably close the border after the Gazans were expelled. The Biden admin got the ball rolling on ethnic cleansing; they just tried to portray it as a humanitarian operation.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 3 points 1 week ago

I think you mean they pressured Egypt, not Israel.

Counter offer: No

[–] mycodesucks@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Yeah. They decided that seven months ago. Trump put up an insane AI video with a golden balloon of his own head and everything.

Does the press have goldfish memory now? Did they catch it from the magas?
