Always be mean to cops.

If you're dating someone and they're not mean to cops, dump their ass.

[–] magic_smoke@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 4 minutes ago

I agree in theory, but honestly I'd rather must fucking avoid them.

The single most important thing we can all do is to fully marginalize and ostracize the republican traitor filth.

  1. Always be willing to lend a hand
  2. Give (and receive) more hugs
  3. Be mean to cops
  4. Talk more with your neighbors
  5. Be extra mean to cops

Sincerely: use the Internet less. It's better for you anyway, but in general we're seeing a real crackdown from corporations and governments. In response if we all just stop using it so much because it's becoming unpleasant anyway they won't know what to do. And maybe a happy side effect if everyone starts to kick the Internet habit is the population becoming generally more sane

The truth nobody wants to hear. We need an incorruptible successor to the internet, and until then I'll be spending as much time offline as I can

The Internet is a big place with plenty of value in it still. If all you do is scroll the big 5 brainrot sites, then yeah you're probably not going to find a ton of enrichment, but that doesn't mean 'Internet bad'. That's almost like saying 'food is bad for you'

If you really want to make a difference, contribute to the spaces on the Internet that are good rather than avoiding it all together

I have a seedbox and would totally be up to seed Wikipedia. Is there an easy way to automate that always the newest release gets seeded? I don't want to do it manually every day.

[–] SadSadSatellite@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Honestly, I wouldn't want it updated constantly. AI and red hats are about to fuck it right to fuck town.

I don't get AI editing Wikipedia. Surely AI gets it's information from Wikipedia.

[–] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

If the ai gets its info from Wikipedia, and the ai edits Wikipedia, and you do your fact checking with Wikipedia, then the information has to be true.

Lots of motives, ranging from well-meaning editors trying to use it to help them improve, all the way to government propaganda machines trying to control narratives.

My personal pet theory is LLM companies themselves trying to poison the well of public information, so that you're forced to use AI instead of traditional search/sites.

My behavior has already started shifting towards asking AI because I know google results are already flooded with AI nonsense, so I might as well use the latest model and ask it directly. But the last thing we need is our access to information tied up in an AI blackbox

Main backups are only done a few times a year. I just grabbed this years and last years for now. I would suggest multiple versions just so you can potentially cross reference and see what changed between updates. For example, what was removed can be just as informative as what was added.

[–] Corelli_III@midwest.social 4 points 3 hours ago

that's a step beyond my of-the-dome abilities but if you look on the backup site, lots of partners keep "the last 5 good backups" and i'm sure there's a way to automate what you're describing

Disclaimer: being mean to cops can get you killed. Even if you're a white male

[–] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 hour ago

Okay. And? Be mean to cops anyway. Don't let them scare you into submission. That's how fascism wins.

I know no one is going to like this, but sincere question- how does being mean to cops make any of our issues better?

Like interfering with their ability to get things done, recording their interactions with the public, etc seem productive. But empty antagonism seems like a good way to inspire greater antipathy for the public that makes issues worse... At least with being mean to ice (who, to be fair, are also cops) it seems more likely the public disdain for them is a large enough amount of the population to make them feel ashamed of themselves, helped along by that fact their actions are more clearly abhorrent at an individual scale, making it easer for those voices to impact them.

But I think with regular cops it's too easy for them to still think of themselves as good guys doing an important service, and I don't see "being mean to them" as likely to actually have an positive impact on the issues we're facing

I would be open to thoughts on how it would make things better though! Just because I don't how it would help doesn't mean it necessarily wouldn't, but intuitively it seems to me like it'd be counter productive in most cases

Specifically obstructing law enforcement (especially ICE) or wasting their time stops them from carrying out fascist orders.
