Friday showed 25 percent of Democratic primary voters saying they would support Newsom as the nominee, a jump from the 12 percent he received in a similar poll conducted in June.

Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg received support from 16 percent of respondents, consistent with what he received in June, while former Vice President Harris’s support slid from 13 percent in the June poll to 11 percent in Friday’s poll.

Why, what’s in 2028?

[–] humanoidchaos@lemmy.cif.su 7 points 8 hours ago

Fucking awful candidate.

[–] AbouBenAdhem@lemmy.world 56 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

The takeaway shouldn’t be that Newsom is a popular candidate among Democrats, but that visibly standing up to Trump is a popular strategy.

[–] TommySoda@lemmy.world 32 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Exactly. I couldn't care less about Newsom as a person. And if literally any Democrat started fighting back I would support them. It's such an easy strategy to win that I'm absolutely baffled by how cowardly Democratic politicians have been.

AIPAC has a stranglehold on most of the reps. Frankly, I find it fucking disgusting these reps have sold their country out so cheaply and easily. And without any compunction apparently.

There is no organized effort to resist (from a place of power) and this will be our failure. The people currently have no position to mount any effective resistance.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 1 points 5 hours ago

this will be our failure.

It'll be one cause of failure, but certainly not the only one. Nothing is preventing The People™ from creating their own resistance organization from scratch; hell there are likely plenty of preexisting leftist organizations that would gladly get hijacked for such a purpose. The fact that so many people are still unwilling to give up on the Democratic Party or consider effective forms of resistance is a much bigger problem.

Absofuckinglutely.

It just shows that your "democratic politicians" have no answer to the rampaging fascism in your country. They just huddle against the one dude who tries to copy the strongman. That does not work.

[–] humanoidchaos@lemmy.cif.su 4 points 8 hours ago

Democrat politicians are just representing their base.

Most democrats don't want the disparity in wealth to shrink because they would have less money relative to their peers. It's why they voted against Bernie, twice.

As soon as neo-liberals' wealth is threatened, they get right in bed with conservatives.

Neither party represents workers, which is why it's stupid for millions of workers to get up in arms defending them. It's why the average person is a useful idiot.

Newsom is a wet sack of political ambitions with no stance or principles.

“We’re about to put a memecoin out. And you know what? Donald Trump, we’ll see how well your coin does versus our coin,” Newsom said.

Seriously, what the fuck??? Memecoins are scams through and through. You don't release a competing scam to troll Trump. It's asinine.

All of this is a PR team backing him up anyways. He's had some short term success with a few hits that landed with milquetoast liberals, but he can't sustain that "momentum" because none of it is genuine. That fake, toothy smile makes my skin crawl. The mask will slip, but even with all that said, I'm still afraid it'll be sufficient to fool enough of the people. I hate it.
