The demotivational poster meme came before the advice animals meme.

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 4 points 4 hours ago

And there was a whole kerfuffle about the advice dog/animal format not being a meme, but an image macro!

Is this a Chris Nolan reference? 🤯

[–] NoForwadSlashS@piefed.social 3 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I don't think Christopher Nolan was around when this was made

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 2 points 3 hours ago

Duhhhhh, he went back in time, just like in Christopher Nolan's hit film Tenet.

The movie name is a reference to the Sator square, yes 🤘

I miss Demotivators. Especially the RPG Demotivators from RPG.Net

My place of work in the early '90s used to have those original motivational posters all over the place, so I hung some of this original demotivational series in my cubicle. I believe they are the ones that started it all, and I still personally think they are the best.

Most of the people on the entirety of lemmy and mastodon won't get this one

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 27 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

I beg to differ. I'm an elder millennial and as far as I can tell, most people here are my age or older.

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 15 points 14 hours ago

Even more proof of being old now that younger folks can't afford houses!

[–] trxxruraxvr@lemmy.world 28 points 15 hours ago

I saw a poll for age a while back on Mastodon and most respondents were in their 30s or 40s

Kills me inside when I see youtuber/celebrity communities

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

I've felt like an odd one out here for a while. Took a bit to realize I'm probably thrice as old as any average user here.

I feel like maybe I should be nicer to the literal children who try to debate with me their asinine, juvenile takes, but also... I think getting slapped around a little in your safe-space is healthy at times.

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 0 points 3 hours ago

I think the average user age here is probably 25 to 30, are you 75 to 90 years old?

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 7 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (2 children)

the literal children who try to debate with me their asinine, juvenile takes

This explains so much, as someone in the upper age brackets; youngsters baying for a learning opportunity while cutting themselves on their edge.

Maybe I should be more forgiving.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 0 points 5 hours ago

Maybe I should be more forgiving.

Sure, you can be more forgiving. But slap them around anyway!

[–] okwhateverdude@lemmy.world 9 points 13 hours ago

Meh, fuck that. Welcome them to the internet and smack them down. They gotta learn. Embrace your inner Aslan.
