Sometimes it's a matter of just practicing until the game becomes fun, but sometimes a character fits your preferences and instincts and habits and it just 'clicks'

So who was it for you? What character best fit you?

Personally? I think Hakumen in Blazblue CS. It felt like the correct mix of tools and frame data and gambles that paid off. The game hadn't added 20 new characters and new systems and i felt like i found a groove. I was objectively better at CF but the lack of English dub meant the character never felt like the one i fucking loved.

Runner up is definitely Marisa in Street Fighter 6. I just love her toolkit. The armor. The parry. The command grab. The unconscionable damage. The lack of a Drive Cancelable low. All of it combines for this big, slow, high dmg punish machine. I have to play patient neutral to start her up, and play solid def to keep her alone, and then when she hits, it's scary. When i guess right, i am the smartest man alive for a brief flickering second.

You can probably see a pattern between those picks lol (high dmg, low walk speed, parry, no projectiles)

Kimberley in SF6 is the final form of the Bushin character type that I started playing with Guy in Street Fighter Alpha. There is nothing in fighting games more fun to me than run-stop rushdown and Kim has the strongest version of it, plus a whole bunch of other tools. She just feels amazing to play and has an infinite amount of creativity you can explore, I find it hard to spend time with any other characters after her.

What are other characters in that archetype you've previously played? Does El Fuerte in SF4 count?

Any you've previously enjoyed from outside SF?

I guess El Fuerte is the same archetype, though I'm loathe to admit it because that character is an abomination :P

It's a pretty niche archetype I guess, you could lump characters with some kind of command dash/movement into it but I don't think its always the same feel to play.I can't really think of characters from any other games that I would consider similar (there's Maki in CvS2 but she is literally a Bushin school character).

Why the El Fuerte hate? I played 4 but he was never at the top of my hated characters list

At high levels of play he was a pure guessing machine, his moves were too fast to react to and you just had to guess left right or throw. He took insane skill to play at that level but his design was just broken.
