The moment when your 15 years old highschool presentation "The US president - A democratically elected dictator?" stop being edgy and becomes foreshadowing.

I would note that those three quotes are more reminiscent of Mussolini to me than they are of Hitler. I wonder if Trump knows what happened to Il Dice?

Duce, il Duce. He was killed, hung upside down in a public square and his dead body was beaten by mothers who lost their sons in the wars. Also, other senior members of the Fascist party.

[–] EnochianFarms@lemmy.world 4 points 19 hours ago

Fuck it, do the same with Trump. Him and Melania swinging would be a new holiday.

Actually the Nazis in Germany used the same framing of fighting against crime to cloak and justify their atrocities. And that's also how they convinced average Otto that this was necessary and a good thing. They ate it.

So it very much reminds me of Nazi Germany.

It's Duce as in Duke. I love the typo BTW it suits the orange Temu dictator well.

[–] sfbing@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago

It was indeed a fat-finger but now I will leave it there.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 3 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Duce is pronounced "doo-chay". Chanted by pro Fascist crowds.

I'm down calling Krasnov "The Douche"

Say it right, Frenchie!

The next time US Americans complain that people in other countries should rise up against dictatorships, just look at the current situation: the political opposition is sitting quietly, waiting for it all to blow over, while showing little concern about minorities being terrorized and expelled by ICE, or about Israel carrying out genocide and annexing Gaza and the West Bank, or Ukrain being sacrificed...

Major civil protests? Missing or not visible. He isn’t even facing legal trouble despite openly breaking laws left and right.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 3 points 12 hours ago

He sure calls the National Guard a lot for things that aren't visible.

Civil war has already started. Only one side is fighting. They are winning with no opposition at all.

Americans are too afraid to even general strike. We have already surrendered.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 5 points 19 hours ago

Of course they are afraid, armed National guards have taken over cities, and people know damned well that no one was held responsible for the murders at Kent State.

In the history books it started 6. january. War usually means use of deadly weapons so I would call this a takeover.

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago

This is more cleaning up than a coup. I feel like we'll probably continue the current path towards a bloodless transition.

As a result, I just think we'll be electing Republicans for the foreseeable future. With the occasional purge of elected officials who stray too far from the executive branch.

The one about congress salary seems like a bad idea. I want people from very poor districts to be able to afford a place to live in Washington DC and at home, and I’d prefer if they didn’t need to be independently wealthy and/or taking bribes to do so.

[–] pupbiru@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

a flat salary and then a bonus based on the increase in expendable income divided by inflation somehow? ie they get a bonus for the real-world improvement in their district

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 1 points 19 hours ago

Still will only encourage the independently wealthy to run. If you're from a rural district in Arkansas you'll never be able to change the local economy enough to afford a room in a DC apartment.

I don't see anything on that list about killing nazis. Doomed to fail.

[–] psycho_driver@lemmy.world 4 points 19 hours ago

I've been making my exit plans since the election was announced. It's a slow burn, since I'd be the last of the population targeted (white male) until they tie my identity to my reddit username and go through all the mean things I've said about president Doofus.

[–] JennyLaFae@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 day ago

Trying to get people to listen over the last few years has only made me feel like Cassandra.

[–] MalReynolds@piefed.social 7 points 1 day ago

Really just lets the inside words out, doesn't he. Epstein.

More like a crab in a bucket with a pile of assholes that refuse to look up. 😅🥲
