Back Blast got him. Too bad his buddies weren't right behind him.

Top notch training they have there.

The claims of Russia's elite military fighting capabilities may have been exaggerated

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 2 days ago

That pretty much sums up the Russian army at this point. Can't wait to see what happens when Russia loses this war and Putin's eventually overthrown by the surviving oligarchs.

I don't get it. Did he have the wrong end forward or is it wrong equipment?

[–] diverging@piefed.social 22 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

He used it wrong. He placed the back of the rpg launcher against his shoulder as if it were a buttstock of a rifle.

It is kind of hard to see, though, since a branch is in the way.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago

To add to this: there is a lot of stuff coming out of the back that will shred your shoulder

rocket launchers, including ones that fire rocket propelled grenades, are a tube that is open on both ends. if they were not, the force of the rocket firing would send a man flying backwards. because of this, the rocket exhaust comes out the back end in a concussive wave that will kill anyone behind the person firing the rocket.

what this idiot just did was break every bone in his torso and turn his brain to liquid. fortunately for him, his pain was over very quickly and he probably was not conscious of anything after squeezing the trigger.

it's an old video, from first year of war i think. (or at least there was s very similar one back then) he was still alive and walking for at least next minute, but i don't think his arm was functional anymore or that he survived this considering state of russian medevac. i'd also expect some kind of lung injury - air can get compressed allowing for whatever was around it to accelerate inwards and collapse with some force, solid tissues less so

e: nah different one, which is weird that it got caught on camera twice, it's their basic at weapon, designed yo be simple to operate, you're not supposed to be able to fuck it up https://www.reddit.com/r/CombatFootage/comments/15kqp0n/russian_troop_firing_an_rpg_forgets_about_back/

He didn't drop dead immediately either. Poor guy, should have stayed home.

On the bright side, his family might get a solid chunk of dough instead of an abusive husband/father. If they’re lucky, that is

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Yea, something tells me Russia isn’t the place that hands out that kinda money too freely.

[–] higgsboson@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

No, literally they will get a lump of dough.

By the standards of whatever Siberian village, the compensation and various bonuses (including after they die) these guys pull is insane. That how they're convincing people to sign up for a war that's both unpopular and nearly guaranteed to kill you. They could try massive conscription, but they'd need loyal people to enforce it or a guarantee it wouldn't lead to regime change, and they have neither.

The Russian government is basically drawing down all the funds and infrastructure in the country to sponsor this war, and at some point here they'll run out. I think I have 11 months left on my prediction of by when.

Yes, it's possible he was even more trash than usual.

Assuming he had a choice in the first place
