Why even censor a presentation given at a professional conference?

Nobody asked the payment processors how they felt about it, MasterCard is very sensitive these days
I used to work for an association that held 1 large conference and 2 small ones each year. As the video/motion graphics guy, part of my job was to screen every single slide deck for every single room.
Main stage was never a problem as they did most of their edits with the meeting director but the small rooms? Hoo boy. No you cannot advertise your book at the end. No you cannot use copyrighted media in your presentation. No you cannot have a sticker graphic that "holy shit!" on a slide.
Not gonna say what industry it was but they were all highly-paid professionals
I have a presentation that I gave on philosophy of science for scientists (as a scientist who has been increasingly interested in that discipline as a hobby interest), and one of my slides had this image, which describes the scientific method in terms of "fuck around and find out". The context of the presentation was such that this kind of joke wasn't inappropriate (and was a useful way to break the tension and not make a bunch of scientists feel patronised that I was clarifying how the scientific method is defined), but I can definitely imagine a world where at a larger conference, someone like you would have to tell me off for that slide
I hated that job because I inherited 75% of my boss' responsibilities (this included) when he quit but I was always pretty nice - and most speakers were just like "lol damn u got me, sorry"
In the 4-5 years I was screening decks, only one person was a dick. And if you guessed it was because I said he couldn't promote his paid online course for half his presentation, you'd be right! Every other slide had something like "Learn more about this at [www.shitbagscumbag.com/givememoney]"
He flipped his shit asking why he'd even present if he couldn't advertise. I didn't even reply, I just forwarded the email to the meeting director. They barred him from the meeting and I think he lost his membership.
Sure wasn't my industry. It's nearly obligatory to meme your slides and include pictures of your pet(s) on the "any questions" slide.
On the other hand, I'm in libraries. We may be professionals but we're not highly paid 😂
Why not? Every single rule you mentioned seems really stupid and useless.
Advertising your book in a presentation suggests that the organizers are backing it or vouching for it in some way. Using copy written material opens up the organizers and the presenter to litigation. A "holy shit!" sticker sounds fun, but there's gonna be a stickler in any group.

Otherwise known as a sticker stickler.
I’ll give you the copyright one but the book mention = conference endorsement is absolute horseshit. Have you ever met a real human being that thinks that? The sticklers can go fuck themselves. Don’t bow to the tyranny of one religious nut job. They have no power but pretend otherwise.
Sounds like a conference for whiners
They were conferences for rich people to trick themselves into feeling like they were doing good things for the world.
Whiners, no. But overinflated egos and a strong desire to be seen as serious professionals, yes. Image image image.
Guise of professionalism. I didn't make the rules lol
All the professionals I know have a good understanding of just how hard publishing a book is, and why someone who wrote one would like to share it. That’s how the arts and sciences are advanced.
All I will say is that it's a specific segment of the finance industry so not arts nor science. I'm certain the advertising ban was part of the contract that you couldn't advertise but I think the "quality" judgement was more informal.
The censorship tool was given too much golden shower smut. Thats where "stream" must come from lol
Trump can figure out "stream".
Now I'm imagining some overly zealous network censoring the show with David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel for the same reason, and just how hilarious that would be.
