Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

As most people know, there's a heavy police and national guard presence in DC. However, as far as I know, they are just booting people out of DC, not making them disappear.

It stands to reason when the police and national guard presence goes back to its old level that many of the people will just come back, since we haven't resolved any of the underlying problems that led to all the crime and homelessness.

Keeping all those people posted up costs a lot of money. I would say unless the plan is to have the military permanently occupy every major US city, that we are wasting our time.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big fan of crime or homelessness, but this just seems like a temporary way to move the problem around at great expense, not to solve it.

Am I missing something here?

The first step in implementing a military coup is to secure your base.

We used to lock up the mentally ill and disabled in state run institutions. They were generally horrible (see One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest). Reagan shut them down and homelessness on the streets surged. His government also cut federal assistance to local governments by 60%. The country never tried to find solutions and the issues never got better.

The police in D.C. are not there to fix homelessness or crime. They are there because fascists need brute troops to intimidate the populace and keep people from 'disorderly conduct' like protesting or demanding their rights.

It's not pointless, it has a very clear point: centralize the police in the single territory free from the federal/state devide, where the entirety of the government that controls the country functions, and place it under the direct control of an autocratic ruler who has previously used control of this territory to avoid consequences for his crimes

The primary difference is he's doing it in year 1 in preparation for what he's about to do instead of retroactively in the last 20 days to try to save his ass. If that doesn't scare the shit of of you then it should

All these other comments are, not so sharp. You have nailed it.

What do you think Trump will do when his 30 days of this legal occupation are up? What do you think the military will do? I honestly don't have a guess.

It's not about crime or anything. Fascists always seek control. They are insecure and yet try to create the image of being in power. The machismo is all there is for them: they want to stifle and silence opposition. Which we won't let happen! All of us share the same fight: against that Epstein creep.

Come on, it's not about crime. It's about control, and normalising the presence of military forces in American cities.

It's not pointless. The point is to get people to forget that the president is a pedophile.

[–] MedicPigBabySaver@lemmy.world 32 points 13 hours ago

Pointless. From the Cheeto Chimp distraction playbook.

Release the Trump/Epstein files

Statistics show that sandwich throwing is down over the past week.

Food is fucking expensive man.

Just paint bricks like a sub sandwich and call it a day.

If the president really cared about making America safer I think they would come up with some sort of policy to improved police recruiting. Give incentives, give better training. But he wants to be a dictator, so this is what he's doing.

Or do something about the root causes of crime. Sure, there's like a minority of sociopaths that will choose a life of crime no matter what, but the majority of it can be avoided by stuff like investments in education, jobs with good pay and safe third places for youth. But all those things are woke and it can take years for the benefits to show, so governments aren't doing those things.

It's business. Genuine reason is not what guides society anymore. We are barely human beings.
