US🤝UK: we are fascism

Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, guess you’re up next.

They’re the UKSA at this stage.

[–] ozymandias@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 3 days ago (1 children)

well at least in the US we can still share a facebook post supporting a non-violent protest group…
but yeah, still fascist….

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 days ago

They're just specializing in different aspects of fascism right now. Also, the US has a less cohesive government with the way states are set up. It's why some of them have the porn restrictions thing like the UK, but it's not nationwide.

Not if the Canadian electorate keeps PP out of the PM's office.

I fear we're underestimating the conservative base of a lot of regions in this country, and how shitty the electoral system is. The LPC wins because it the least evil of all the other choices. They're still liberals, in the "corporations and money first" sense. It's not a good place to be for a democracy.

Plus, the provincial governments of the two most populous are both currently conservative. Even if the CAQ is not named that way. And there's Alberta.

My family and their friends in the countryside are "against Trump" but kind of admire the policies. They defend themselves and say they think Trump is stupid, but they are still misinformed about immigration, the economy, social issues, and spew the same general lines than Republicans or Conservatives. They're not! But you know, those immigrants and those pronouns these day. And those protesters should find a job! Oh and of you have nothing to hide anyway.

I fear we're on thin ice.

We are indeed on thin ice, and your revelations about the electoral system are sound. Although I'm not hot-to-trot about the Liberal party, their tendency to favour "business and corporations" sometimes results in a better outcome simply because of their humanist streak IMO - whatever quantity it represents within their part & voter base is often enough. The healthcare system is best representative of this, as I've seen/heard several times their assertion that cuts to it produce worse (and more expensive) outcomes down the road. In a kind of fortuitous way, their determined efforts to manage federal/provincial resources without stripping out the floor in budget cuts winds up producing a much more personally manageable situation for the electorate by furnishing critical public services unheard of in the United States.

You keep doing that vile anti-human lib shit, you'll get worse than pp in a couple years. Problems festering with no solution is not sustainable, and if you oppress the actuql left while brandinf yoyrself as keft; people will break right when the time comes.

Sincerely: some one whose ruling parties fucked around, and are a couple years ahead of yours.

[–] TrojanRoomCoffeePot@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The Liberal Party may be shit, but it's sure as Hell not "anti-human", that's a quality that I'd tack onto the Conservatives. Neither of them is supportive of Leftist policies, but the damage done by Poilievre won't so much let problems fester as accelerate them to disastrous ends, that SOB will never find a supporter in me.

libs not anti human

No thats what libs are. Just because there are worse ggouls doesn't make them good. Carney is the festering wound.

I notice youre talking like an american shitlib already. Framing things in terms of bad/notbad. Insteas of bad/verybad', as if just 'bad' is 'good' because there's something worse.

Yes pp is worse faster, but mc is not good. Mc is still anti human. If you do not choose 'good' and 'actually solving problems' while you have major problems eating at ypu, which you do, what the worse option is gets much worse much faster these days. You already sound like you have severe symptoms of the disease.

It is easier for canadians to choose slightly good over lesser evil. And you are a few years behind us. So theres hope if you actually fucking do something about it. But you personally sound like you'd eather be part of the problem-you sound like an american shitlib; the people who made donald trump.

Can't wait to hear from the Brits saying "wHy DoN't YoU jUsT fIgHt BaCk?" to Americans.

It's on your doorstep now. What will you do?

[–] Zombie@feddit.uk 12 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (3 children)

Hmm... Yeah, I wonder. It's not like there's been protests across the country or anything. Hundreds of arrests at multiple different events up and down the country. Legal challenges at court. Opposition parties ridiculing the government. A new direct action group formed named after the Home Secretary.

It's not like just 2 weeks ago the Metropolitan Police arrested the most people in a single day in over 10 years.

It's not like there's another mass protest planned for the 6th September.

Whatever shall we do...

The British population are mobilising, the American population is largely sitting on its laurels.

[–] dissentiate@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Please stop this. Any people who are watching fascist shitbags terrorize their given population deserves solidarity; not broad brush statements of them "not doing enough".

Fascists here in the states and Europe have been openly giving solidarity, financial support, online platforming, and have solid propaganda for recruiting more into their ranks.

What I'm trying to say here is this; we should be working together instead of tearing each other down. It makes the fascists job easier than we can afford to allow.

[–] Zombie@feddit.uk 2 points 2 days ago

Yes and no.

The American population is by and large not resisting fascism.

I don't, obviously, mean there's been no resistance or that there's nobody deserving of solidarity. There have been protests and there are people resisting. But in general, the pushback has been minimal. Trump and co are generally getting away with whatever outrageous thing they do each week.

So to then see comments trying to call out our lack of action, when there has been quite substantial action here, deserves a response. Our government are at the point where there's murmurings of its collapse and a new left wing party is forming with record membership. And Westminster has only committed a handful of heinous acts in comparison with Trump/Republicans committing heinous acts every day.

So I take on and get what you're saying, but perhaps try telling it to EvilEdgelord too.

[–] dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 days ago

you haven't been paying attention to the LA and seattle protests

[–] EvilEdgelord@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You need to go farther than protesting. We all do.

[–] dissentiate@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago

The news will start telling people about "domestic terror attacks" against government agents. The people who they villainize are going to be citizens who lost everything due to a failing state with no safety nets.

They won't be a villain to me. They're heroes.

“You get the government you deserve” 🙄
