I feel like I've formed some sort of faithfulness towards dbzer0 and have a bias towards subs and users of my instance. Anybody else in the same boat?

I just have biases against other servers. For example, .world users tend to act a lot like redditors which I dislike.

.ml users are more likely to tell me about the glories of communism than any other discussion. Yeah I get it, the ml stands for Marxist-Leninist, great job guys.

.dbzer0 folks are more likely to profess the greatness of FOSS solutions and discuss Linux distros, but I'd rather have that conversation over and over again because it's usually pleasant and I learn something new every time.

I'll just apologize in advance.

And here I am, just picking a local instance to support my fellow Canadians.

[–] AmosBurton_ThatGuy@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 years ago

🏒Taps fellow Canuck

[–] SnokenKeekaGuard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah better not say anything against dbzer0

[–] canis_majoris@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 years ago

I learn mostly about FOSS, Linux, and piracy through you guys. And I thought I was a pretty advanced pirate myself, but you guys are a whole other level at times.

I don't even know what ml stands for

I just joined this instance as this was maintained by Lemmy devs(I joined before reddit's enshitification)

I’m a simple person, if I see pronouns, I upvote.

[–] Celediel@slrpnk.net 13 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Considering slrpnk.net is very niche, and catering to those with a certain mindset, I absolutely do feel some camaraderie with fellow instance-members.

I was shocked to see a solar punk instance. It's not smth much talked about. And yes I discovered it through Andrewism

[–] canis_majoris@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 years ago

Outside of my instance I think slrpnk is one of the coolest. I like all of the efficiency being discussed for being more in tune with the planet and the environment rather than being at odds with it. I get tired of hearing "fuck cars" though. I like 15 minute cities as much as the next guy but I already live in suburban sprawl and it's not going to go away, so please don't tell me that my enjoyable automobile is evil.

Not really. I did for a while on Mastodon but then the one I picked announced it was going to shut down. So I left

Well you're still a brother to me.

[–] showmustgo@hexbear.net 6 points 2 years ago

Of course, if I see pronouns in their name I know I'm among friends

[–] SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 2 years ago

I've always been a big fan of SDF, and I like their sort of niche community.

Its nice seeing other people from your instance active on here too, a bit like seeing someone unexpected in public.

I don't think it would be the same kind of feeling if you're registered on lemmy.ml or lemmy.world though, those instances make up a lot of the userbase and seeing those users is not that rare

[–] TurtleTourParty@midwest.social 5 points 2 years ago

I don't know if it's loyalty but I get all happy when I see a comment or post by someone on my instance on a community outside my instance.

[–] xXthrowawayXx@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago

Yeah. It’s real good. I wish we were federated with more instances, but thats a process and will take time.

[–] HornyOnMain@hexbear.net 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

yeah, like, its weird to feel an actual sense of community for an internet space but like, having met some of the users from here irl, being in some discords with a load of the trans power posters, maybe potentially getting estrogen patches from one soon (idk if it'll happen or not but like it'll be cool if it does) and like being on here for so many years i feel like, such a real sense that im posting with friends on here

[–] Oha@lemmy.ohaa.xyz 4 points 2 years ago

Yes, Bc I host mine

[–] pe1uca@lemmy.pe1uca.dev 4 points 2 years ago

Kind of, but just because I deployed it xP

[–] Drusas@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

kbin.social user here and, yeah, a little bit.

Partly because ernest is great and working so hard on making improvements, partly because everyone is so supportive of him. It's just a friendly instance, mostly. I also moderate the politics magazine (community), so that's a bit of a factor.

[–] authed@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm about to quit mine... They are too strict

Welcome to dbzer0, the best around

[–] WoofWoof91@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

yep, i like my fellow six sided ursines

[–] sour@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

i will die defending the hexbear servers from the forces of reaction

I feel some kinship with my instance just because it's a niche fandom-based instance, but I wouldn't hesitate to jump away should there be reason to. In the last few months I jumped from .ml to .ca when redditors started coming here, then from .ca to here a couple weeks ago.

If I moved, it'd have to be to another small, niche interest instance like this. I have an account over on retrolemmy.com for a couple of the communities I made, so maybe I'd set up shop there, depending on what their apparent federation/defederation stances were.

[–] EclecticSleep@lemmy.best 2 points 2 years ago

Obviously, it's the best™

[–] Zak8022@artemis.camp 2 points 2 years ago

Yea, a little bit. It’s different on the kbin side since there aren’t many instances for now. But the instance I’m on is primarily target towards Artemis app users, so we all have that in common.

On Mastodon, yes definitely. I’m on a gaming focused instance and everyone has been awesome.

[–] fbmac@lemmy.fbmac.net 1 points 2 years ago

my instance is the worst

[–] ProtonBadger@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 years ago

I never look at the local feed, only my subscribed. But what you subscribe is very human, we tend to gravitate towards a tribe.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago (7 children)

Sorta? In that my instance generally handles defederation in ways I approve of more than any other major instances. But meh otherwise. And yeah mostly I have biases against instances as was mentioned

Loyalty? Not necessarily. I agree with the admin and moderation policy, so far decisions in the community have been discussed openly, and I don’t generally find most of the users obnoxious.

That being said I’m considering spinning up my own instance.

[–] willya@lemmyf.uk 1 points 2 years ago

Yes, of course.
