I hate how stupid my fucking country is.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

"Biden failed. This we can agree on." "but.... But, maybe Newsom!"

I also fucking hate it here.

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 2 months ago

It's the same people who then say Clinton and Harris only lost because they're women

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 3 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Yeah it's going to be Newsom vs Vance and the left will scream that it should have been Bernie and that they'll be voting for Jill Stein.

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago (11 children)

Almost like this has happened before but the Dems will intentionally not learn from their previous mistakes

Then maybe we should offer the left a candidate that they'll vote for. It'd be a nice change of pace.

[–] stupe@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The progressive party offer a progressive candidate? How absurd.

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 2 months ago

Usa has a progressive party???

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

No, it's going to be Newsom against Donald Trump Jr. , In an epic battle of Kimberly Guilfoyle's exes....

(Yes, she was married to Newsom, and then engaged to Junior for years before they split up)

The DNC has found their new milquetoast Neoliberal!

Yayyyy

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 20 points 2 months ago (3 children)

No. He should do what he can to push out and fight against this current regime, but nobody likes him or wants him as a president. Nobody.

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago (2 children)

You've got to remember that you and I are not the average Democratic primary voter. Clearly there are plenty of Democrats who think this is a good idea.

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

NOBODY.

...yeah I know just let me have something

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I wish I could man but we're in a Steelers Wheel situation where there are .ml clowns to the left of us and Nazis to the right and here we are stuck in the middle of neoliberals.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

You should read the article. In the pole referenced Newsom is in 6th place. He got a higher than expected percentage of the poling which the author has blown up here with their deceptive clickbaity headline. Possibly in an effort to make people think that Newsom is the favorite.

Not that I'd be really happy to vote for the actual favorite in the pole which is Kamala Harris. Though I would absolutely vote for her over Newsom any day of the week.

[–] madcaesar@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Why not? I don't know much about him except that he isn't 300 years old like the rest of the Democrats.

He seems to be doing a good job in California?

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago

He's just another slimy corporatist owned by the ultra wealthy, but throws a bone to the social issues of Democrats. Pretty much the same strategy that modern Democrats have had for the past 40+ years. I will absolutely vote for him in the general or support him in pushing against Trump/Repulicans, but he's one of my least favorite Democrats now.

[–] alyqz@lemmy.sdf.org 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

His willingness to throw trans kids under the bus is one of my problems with him.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Trans kids, homeless people, immigrants. All safely tucked under the bus. But hey, he's favored by the rich white Democrats of California.

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 2 months ago

Don't forget workers after the whole gig workers bill

[–] Taldan@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

That's a pretty good point

I'm appreciating Newsom as a foil to Trump, and want him to continue that, but I really wouldn't want him to be the Democratic nominee. I'd much rather have a Mamdani-esque nominee

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 18 points 2 months ago

Fuck this guy. Fuck him. He's a piece of shit that's desperate to be the next president because he's seen how low the bar is.

I'm a Californian, and I know we can do better. Demand better, America.

[–] Yeller_king@reddthat.com 18 points 2 months ago

At this point, it's tantamount to a name ID poll.

[–] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago

He's nothing if not a political opportunist. Really hoping a better candidate starts gaining traction though.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

We really are in the idiocracy timeline.

Politicians are picked on their staffer’s ai meme game

While I know this is nothing more than name recognition at this point, still just ugh...

It's kinda sad to just hope that there will still be elections, at that point...

Because every candidate surging in polls 3 years ahead of the election have ever made it close to winning.

[–] Theprogressivist@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago
[–] Tugboater203@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

I don't want to lose him, but Gov Ned Lamont from CT is a pretty good governor. Maybe a little bit more towards the center than some would like but he's done a good job with jobs, taxes and covid

[–] tiredofsametab@fedia.io 3 points 2 months ago

It is twenty-fucking-twenty-five. Why on earth is this a thing that even exists?

[–] WraithGear@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (9 children)

no matter what i will not vote for him

Republicans are rigging elections because they know that if they lose power, they're going to hang for their crimes.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago
