Bit frustrating. Not every app, but a few I'd really like don't work because of this issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Could you have "Play Protect" enabled? That might be the trigger here. I shut mine off because it's stupid.

Not sure where this setting is. How can I disable it?

[–] Zier@fedia.io 2 points 6 days ago

I believe on my device it's on Settings, under Security. But it may be different for you. Here is a general article that may or may not help. https://www.esper.io/blog/how-to-disable-google-play-protect-on-your-android-device-and-why-you-might-want-to

Are you sure it's aurora's fault? What install method do you use in Aurora? Do you have gms (Google Play Services)? Do you use MicroG or other spoofing methods? What rom do you have? Can you give us an example app where this happens, so we can try to reproduce? Have you reported the issue somewhere upstream?

I'm guessing the "Focus Friend' mentioned in the screenshot is one you can check on.

I doubt this is an Aurora store issue. Probably Google being shitty again, or possibly the OEM.

Aformentioned app perfectly works for me. Installed with aurora with root installer, I use microG

[–] ComicalMayhem@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

installation method: session installer

GMS (Google play services): Not sure what you mean by this or how to check if I have it.

microG: yes but I installed it a long time ago. will check to see if it needs an update.

rom: unsure what this means or which one I have

example app: focus friend by Hank green. also experienced issue with eternum some time ago.

Issue has not been reported upstream. I would like to at least attempt to find a solution before reporting any issues

This is most likely the apps themselves checking if they were installed from the play store. Looks like you should complain at Hank Green about this kind of shitty behaviour.

Just in case it's user error, I would like to check on my end first

Apps that require Google play services will be clearly marked in red on the app page.

[–] ComicalMayhem@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

They're not on my end at least. I have to scroll down on the app's page to compatibility to see anything marked in red.
