I used to volunteer at a pound and there was one fat orange cat named ruffles. He was not nearly as fat as this guy, just a bit chonky. He was SUPER sweet and one day I came back and he was gone

as in he got adopted, but I didn't get to say goodbye :(

Your two souls are intertwined for eternity now. A goodbye wasn't necessary.

What a beautiful thing to say

[–] dogs0n@sh.itjust.works 6 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

I almost didn't because I thought i'd be called a weirdo thank you 🐝

The wholesomeness of this all, with a bee at the end, has put the Adventure Time credits theme in my head, and that makes me happy.

Your post makes me think of a childhood movie song, you and your chonky bud just staring at the moon every night: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5jl8mzCaCr0

Poor thing

It’s not right to let them get this big, hope he got healthy

[–] CatDogL0ver@lemmy.world 26 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Those irresponsible owners. Cats can suffer from cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure and diabetes too.

The chonky kitty was existing on a diet of cookies and soup when his pudgy plight was discovered, Newsflash reported.

It’s believed that hospital staff enjoyed feeding him to the point where things went more than a little overboard.

“Kroshik’s story is an extremely rare case when someone loved a cat so much that they fed him to such a state,” a spokesperson for the Matroskin Shelter in Prem explained.

A normal cat weights around 4kg. Crumbs weighted at most 17kg. That's a little over 4 times the normal weight.

An average weight for an average person is 70kg. 4 times the normal weight for an average human would be 280kg

[–] Glitterbomb@lemmy.world 11 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

That's 617lbs for the Americans. And wouldn't you know it, we have a whole show about that. 152 episodes.

Wow, I've seen posts about the here and there. I've got such mixed feelings about it. I mean it's interesting and good to spread awareness. But it feels wrong to make entertainment from sick people.

Aww poor little guy.

I must apologize to my cat for calling her chonkee for years. She is no where close to this Chonkzilla.

[–] the_q@lemmy.zip 29 points 1 day ago

Poor baby. They must feel awful.

That poor cat. :(

Contrary to what the headline implies, Crumbs didn't die from the weight loss program, rather from tumors which weren't detected in time due to the excess weight. Rest in peace Crumbs! 🐱

Edit: typo

I’m not sure why you’d need a fat camp for a pet. Just feed them slightly less and they lose weight

[–] derry@midwest.social 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Some times the owner has mental health issues.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 14 points 23 hours ago

A pet doesn’t get fat on its own. It’s about separating the pet from the abusive owner.

[–] svtdragon@lemmy.world 7 points 21 hours ago

If you have multiple pets that can be harder than it sounds. And if you don't have a ton of money the good solutions (e.g. locked feeders with RFID tags) can be pricy.

It doesn't completely work that way, just like for humans. Sometimes feeding pets less is just subjecting them to pretty severe discomfort and hunger, while their metabolism is deciding that food is scarce so they better hoard every calorie they can spare. I know it's significantly urgent to help them lose weight because of the health impacts, but IDK that it is super simple once you've decided to try to make it happen.
